Players, Officials, friends and families of REIGATE PRIORY FC enjoyed a busy evening of recognition to players who contributed most to the successes of the club last season. Eleven awards were available including Manager & Players Player awards across 4 Senior teams with additionally Youth Player of the Year, Most Improved Player and Clubman of the Year. Over the past few weeks 'Friends of Reigate Priory' have been working hard on refurbishment of the Club Bar to make it more appealing for its members and guests and the evening provided an opportunity to evaluate progress.

The 2003/4 season was an exciting period for the club with 3 of the previous seasons youth teams coming of age. Many of these players settled well across the four senior teams with four players, James Shearman, Charnpal Flora, Matt Moss and Ben Lidbury becoming regulars in the 1st team. First team Managers Craig Norman and Richard White paid tribute to their evolving team and look forward to next season with great optimism. 1st Team Managers Player of the Year was awarded to Andy Chapman and Players Craig Wheeler.

The reserve team managed by Nigel Lomas, Italo Vezza put in a significant finish to the season with 4 back to back wins including victories over Charlwood and Kenley Hotel, the seasons favourites, to steal the 1st Division Championship. Reserve team Managers Player of the year was awarded to Mathew Keeling and Players Players to the ever popular Tom Marshall.

The third team managed by Dennis Upfold made a significant start to the season with a predominantly U-18 team but saw many players quickly get snapped up by the 1st and 2nd team managers. Chris Byrne was chosen as Managers Player and Players Player was Jason Mellows.

Running a 4th team is a difficult task and Andy Chatfield and Stuart Porte completed a great job in fielding a team every week. Manager Player of the Year awarded to Chris Comben and Players Player Adam Jones.

The Most Improved Player award went to Mark Hadley who worked hard and was a regular at the clubs training facility moving his way up from the 4ths to the reserves by the end of the season. Mark was presented with his award by 1st team Manager Craig Norman (as seen in photo).

Youth Player of the Year went to Ben Lidbury who is an exciting left midfield prospect. Ben started off in the 3rds and had broken into the 1st team during the early stages of the season.

Clubman of the Year award was presented to Chairman Ray Connolly for his continued hard work for the football club.

For the Season 2004/5 Priory intend to field 4 Senior Teams in the Redhill & District Saturday Football League with a further 2 Senior sides on Sundays. The Youth Section will be fielding u-15 and u-16 in the Epsom & Ewell Sunday League with u-10 ( mini), u-12s & u-14s playing Saturday in the Horsham & District Football league.

Reigate Priory played the first round of the new club tournament in honour of a great friend of Reigate Priory Football Club, John Denham. For many years John gave up his time freely to train and assist with tactics and evaluations on match days. John's wit and insight are missed since his passing earlier this year, but his legacy lives on and Reigate Priory Football Club took great pleasure in organising a competition in acknowledgment of his contribution to the club. The first round of the John Denham Cup saw the Priory Reserve team play against the Priory ‘A’ team, with the winners to meet the winners of a match between the Priory under sixteens and the Priory under seventeens. The winners of the two first round matches will then go on to battle for the right to play the first team in the final.

Saturdays match began at a very fast pace, with both teams trying to make an impact early on. A nervy first ten minutes saw the ‘A’ team come closest, with a powerful shot rebounding to safety off the Reserve team’s crossbar. An early injury to Norris saw Kirsch come on after only 10 minutes of the match. The Shearman brothers linked up well to produce several good opportunities, but it wasn’t until the 14th minute that the Reserves were able to break the deadlock, after Marshall received from Seldon’s precise through ball, and stroked the ball past Voyce to give the Reserves an early lead. The second goal came soon after when Watson powered through from the right, and saw his vicious low shot deflect off Griswood, and hit the back of the net. The ‘A’ team were beaten yet again in the 33rd minute, when Ross Markwick’s splendid run and powerful shot resulted in another deflected goal off the unfortunate Griswood. Seldon came close in the dying moments of the first half, but was denied by Voyce in the ‘A’ team goal.

The second half began with the ‘A’ team the better side, after the introduction of Lane to the ‘A’ team attack, and the Reserves were forced to defend for long periods of time. Again they hit the crossbar, after Sinnicks cross from a left-sided free kick was met by the head of Chandler. Jim Cook was able to extend the Reserve’s lead in the 65th minute, when he punished the ‘A’ team keeper for spilling James Shearman’s shot. The last twenty minutes saw the Reserves face sustained pressure from their opponents, with Joe Lane and Charles Reed both proving to be a real handful for the Reserve team centre backs Jowett and Lomas. Chatfield came close with a shot from long range, and at the other end, Bishops header from a Cook corner kick went narrowly over. The match was put beyond all doubt in the 89th minute when James Shearman turned provider yet again, and crossed to substitute Ali Russell, who struck the ball with confidence, and saw the ball fly into the roof of the net. A keenly contested first round match sees Priory Reserves through to the next round of the John Denham Cup.

Stanton Construction have been an established business in Reigate for many years and are actively involved in promoting local business within the area. Reigate Priory expected a difficult Redhill Saturday League Premier Division fixture the previous Saturday when they entertained Walton Heath. In the event they won 4-0.

After a let-off straight from the kick-off, Priory settled down to produce some fluent passing. They opened the scoring from a well-worked set-piece, slammed home by Joe Lane from Richard Wright's free-kick. After a second goal from Paul Burton, who chested the ball down and rifled it past the keeper, Priory looked well on top with a 2-0 lead at half-time.

After the resumption, Walton pressed forward but Priory looked solid at the back and took every chance to counter-attack with speed. Two or three quick passes left Jim Elliott unmarked on the edge of the visitors' box and his sublime touch wrong-footed the keeper for a 3-0 and the game was won.

Walton kept pushing forward but to no avail and a handball in their own penalty area in the closing minutes saw Tim Seldon add Priory's fourth from the spot.

A superb team effort from a young developing side resulted in Reigate Priory's Second team getting the better of Court Lodge in a keenly-contested final at the Kiln Brow last Wednesday.

Early possession was shared and it was Priory who opened the scoring after 25 minutes. The impressive James Lunn powerfully headed home John Markwicks flag-kick.

With Ben Marshall replacing the injured Tom Marshall Priory started to enjoy greater possession in midfield. Despite strong pressure from Court Lodge, Priory increased their lead after 64 minutes, Lunn keeping the keeper little chance with a 12 yard strike.

Priory stretched 3-0 clear on 77 minutes courtesy of a Ben Marshall solo effort and never say die Lodge were rewarded with an 88 minute goal from the penalty spot. Eye-catching performances were turned in by Stuart Morley, player manager Nigel Lomas and Ross Markwick.
