MATCH PROGRAMME

ROYAL ENGINEERS 1872 

REIGATE PRIORY 1892

          

On Easter Sunday , 23rd March 2008 REIGATE PRIORY FC entertain the ROYAL ENGINEERS FC at the Park Lane Sports Ground, Reigate. This fixture represents a restaging of a match that should have taken place on the 11th November 1871 in the 1st Round of the Inaugral FA CUP Competition of that year. Reigate Priory and the Royal Engineers were two of the originating clubs that featured in the first ever FA Cup . Archives show that this game was 'scratched' and the Royal Engineers were awarded passage to the next round. The Royal Engineers went on to reach the first ever FA Cup Final against the Wanderers , but lost 1-0. Reigate Priory did feature in further FA Cup competitions but never made it past the 2nd Round.

With the visit of the Royal Engineers , Reigate Priory will guest a Charity/Fund Raising Event and raise monies for the

Childrens Trust, Tadworth , Surrey. On the day there will be a Bar B Que, Refreshments, Bar, Raffle, Easter Egg Hunt for the kids, Programmes, Memorabilia Auction, Evening Entertainment with Themed Disco.

The Memorabilia

The club has written to over 50 professional football clubs requesting support by providing an item/items of memorabilia. The club hopes to receive a reasonable response in order to run the auction. All monies raised from the auction will go directly to the chosen charity. Match Day Programme

It is intended to create a 16 page matchday programme to commemorate the fixture. People aquiring a programme will be asked to make a minimum donation of £1.There will be advertising space available which will of course raise further monies. If interested contact Simon Avery.

The Day

Gates will open at 1.00pm in preparation for a match KO of 2.00pm. Refreshments, Bar B Que will be available to early evening. For the Kids there will be the opportunity to participate in the Easter Egg hunt.

Into the evening, There will be a Raffle, Memorabilia Auction , finishing the day with a Themed Disco.
