REIGATE PRIORY RESERVES (1) 3 NUTFIELD RESERVES (0) 2
Ainsworth2,Morley1

For the second week in a row Reigate Priory Reserves were playing a team near to the foot of the table, this time the visitors were Nutfield Res, and again the match proved to be a close affair. Priory were looking to continue to progress in Division 1 in what has proved to be a close division this year.
Priory started well and settled quickly into their stride. They set the tempo for the game and began to pressure the Nutfield defence with some neat play from wingers Hamilton and Taylor. Priory's defence at this stage coped well with the Nutfield strike force with Avery and Wheeler organising Priory's defence.
With 20 minutes of the game gone Priory took the lead through Ainsworth. At this stage with Priory in control of the game it looked like Priory would go on and take advantage of this lead. However a second goal before half time never came despite Marshall hitting the post for Priory. As a result Nutfield started to get back into the game. Their well organised midfield began to assert a greater influence on the game. At half time the game was still not in Priory's grasp.
The second half saw Nutfield look more of a threat and they created a number of good chances. However Priory got the important second goal when a neat ball out to Ainsworth on the wing saw him cut inside the Nutfield defender and fire home a low shot into the bottom corner of the net. Despite the two goal lead Nutfield continued to work hard and put pressure on Priory.
With 15 minutes to go a Nutfield cross into the Priory penalty box caught the defence by surprise and Avery inadvertently bought down the Nutfield striker. Nutfield converted the penalty kick. At 2-1 the game was starting to slip away from Priory. With central defender Wheeler taken off with an injury Nutfield again pressed and a cross into the Priory penalty area resulted in a scramble in front of goal and Nutfield getting the equaliser. With all the substitutes on for both teams it looked like the game was heading for a draw, but with a minute of normal time remaining Morley picked up the ball in midfield and struck a fierce shot into the top of the Nutfield goal to make it 3-2. A cruel blow to Nutfield who looked like getting a point out of the game.

Saturday 19th January 2008 - Redhill & District Senior Cup Quarter Final.
WOODLAND ALBION (1 ) 1 REIGATE PRIORY RESERVES (0) 5
Marshall2,Ainsworth1,Morley1,ReidL1
With Reigate Priory 1st team being promoted last season to Intermediate football this was the first time in 5 years that the Reserves have been able to compete in the Redhill & District Senior Cup. This quarter final encounter saw Reigate Priory Reserves away to Woodland Albion, an established team in the Redhill & District Premier Division.
The game started with Woodland Albion looking the brighter side. They quickly got into their stride and took advantage of being the physically stronger side. They pressed by continually placing the ball into the Priory penalty box, causing Priory a number of defence problems. Priory in the early part of the game looked nervous and as a result Albion took an early lead. A huge kick by the Albion keeper saw the ball headed high into the area by Priory defender Leask, the ball continued onwards towards the Priory goal which caught the Priory defence static and an Albion striker stuck the ball away neatly. Albion continued to put pressure on Priory by playing down the centre of midfield and continually placing balls directly into the Priory penalty area.
Half way through the 1st half Priory started to settled down and put some pressure on the Albion defence. Priory managed to get the ball wide to wingers Williams and Read and they started to create a number of opportunities. Some neat play saw Priory come close to equalising on a number of occassions. Both Williams and Read opened up the Albion defence but a number of clear cut chances went begging. Read in particular saw his effort go wide with only the keeper to beat. But Albion always looked a threat from set pieces and corners but the Priory defence were starting to deal with the aerial onslaught from Albion.
With Albion still claiming the initiative at the start of the second half it was up to the Priory to take the game to Albion. Priory stuck to their game plan of getting the ball wide and using the pace of their wingers. 10 minutes into the second half Priory got an equaliser. Having beaten the Albion full back Read struck the ball low into the Albion defence and Marshall was on hand to slot the ball home into the bottom corner of the Albion net. Priory continued to pressure and they started to up the tempo. The next 15 minutes saw Priory miss numerous chances to take the lead. In the end Read got the important 2nd goal for the Priory. From this point onwards the Albion defence came under constant pressure and Marshall got the important 3rd goal to see Priory take a firm control of the game. Albion still had a number of chances but they were becoming few and far between.
Priory's fourth goal came with 20 minutes of the second half left. Morleys run from midfield beat the Albion defence and he continued on to place the ball in the top corner of the Albion defence. At this point Priory bought on three substitutes, Ainsworth, Hamilton and Costachuck. All three contributed in seeing the remaining play take place in the Albion half. A cross saw Hamiltons header hit the Albion cross bar but Ainsworth was on hand to tuck in the ball from close range to
make it 5-1.
In the end Prioys younger side managed to get the better of the more experienced Woodland Albion.

DUKE OF YORK (1 ) 1 REIGATE PRIORY RESERVES (1) 5
Morley1,Costaschuk1,WilliamsJ2,Hamilton1
The start of 2008 saw Reigate Priory Reserves away to bottom of the table side Duke of York. Despite the difference of 8 league places between the two teams this was in fact a very close and eventful match. The Priory started the better side for the first 10 minutes of the match. Some neat play from the new striking combination of Paul Hamilton and Michael Costachuck saw both players come close. Only a number of fine saves from the Duke of York keeper resulted in a clean sheet in the opening section of the game, with Costachuck in particular having a number of one to one opportunities with only the keeper to beat. In the end it was Morley that converted a chance to put Priory 1-0 up.
However Duke of York were well organised and had some considerable pace as an attacking force. They came into the game more and more as the first half finished and eventually their pressure on the Priory goal paid off with an equaliser just before half time.
The second half saw Priory score early on with Costachuck putting Priory 2-1 up. At this point Priory were looking to capitalise on this advantage but the game started to open up. It was Duke of York who took the initiative and started to control the game. They were unlucky to score on a number of occasions and they hit the bar twice in quick succession. Only some fine goal keeping from Bradley Martin, the Priory keeper, kept Priory in the game. He produced a number of excellent saves from the Duke of York strikers who were clean through on a number of occasions.
Priory changed their formation which resulted in the introduction of Jamie Williams. His contribution to the match produced two goals for Priory, somewhat against the run of play. At 4-1 the game looked like it was heading Priory's way but still Duke of York continued to push forward changing their formation to 3-4-3. They bought the game back to 4-2 but Priory finished the game off with the first goal for Priory striker Paul Hamilton.
In the end this proved to be a very competitive match and Priorys win was largely due to the quality of their finishing and a fine goalkeeping performance from Martin.

REIGATE PRIORY RESERVES (0) 0 SMALLFIELD RESERVES (0) 2
With a number of players moving up to the 1st Team and some of the regulars unavailable the Reserves brought in a number of the clubs youngsters for this Division One encounter with Smallfield Reserves. For Priory the 1st half was very positive with Priory moving the ball swiftly. Martin and Hamilton down the right were bright and overall Priory were creating some good chances. The returning Charles Read had numerous opportunities to break the deadlock but was just unable to offer the killer strike. Jowett breaking through from the back additionally saw his strike just miss the target. Rowlands moving onto a great pass homed in on goal and with the keeper advancing outside the box to intercept, cut inside only to be brought down to be clearly robbed of a goal scoring opportunity.
Into the 2nd half and Smallfield started to come more into the game but Priory still were dangerous on the break. Then a defining moment , with Charles Read outpacing 3 Smallfield defenders and clean through only for a defender to pull him down with only the keeper to beat. With the referee just offering a Yellow Card , Smallfield's numbers were intacked and within minutes they had taken the lead. Smallfield sealed their victory with a second goal. Smallfield could have made it three but for a great reaction save by Priorys young keeper Bradley Martin.

WALTON HEATH (0) 0 REIGATE PRIORY RESERVES (2) 4
Balcombe2,Seldon1,Morley1
This week Reigate Priory Reserves were away to top of the table side Walton Heath. Having already lost to Walton Heath earlier on in the season this was always going to be a keenly fought contest. With Reigate Priory sitting just 3 points behind Walton Heath in the league this match was important to both teams.
Despite the bad weather conditions during the week the Walton Heath pitch was in good condition. The first 15 minutes of this game proved to be a tight affair with neither team having any clear cut chances. However it was Priory who took the lead when some neat work down the left hand side of midfield from Ben Lidbury resulted in the subsequent cross being headed in by Tim Seldon. Despite the early set back Walton Heath continued to play some neat football and they proved to be a constant threat with a number of attacks coming from their right winger. One of these attacks nearly resulted in an equaliser but the Walton Heath striker shot over the Priory bar from close range. With 10 minutes to go before half time Priory took a 2-0 lead when a cross from the right saw Gareth Balcombe beat the Walton Heath defender to slot the ball home from close range.
In the second half it was Priory who took the game to Walton Heath with Stuart Morley and Aaron Lawrence taking control the game, despite Walton Heath dropping one of their strikers back into midfield. The game started to open up and Priory looked the more likely to get that decisive next goal. It was a second strike from Gareth Balcombe that sealed the game. He neatly controlled the ball on the edge of the box and then placed his shot into the bottom corner of the net. At 3-0 it was looking like Priory were going to take the valuable 3 points. Walton Heath continued to push forward but the Priory defence looked strong throughout the game. Walton Heath came close to scoring but they were denied by the Priory keeper Bradley Martin.
In the last 10 minutes of the game Priory midfielder Stuart Morley finished the game off with a strong run from midfield which took him into the Walton Heath penalty box. Despite the close attentions of a Walton Heath defender Morley slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
With the 3 points going to Reigate Priory the top of League Division 1 is proving to be a very tight contest.

REIGATE PRIORY RESERVES (1) 3 DUKE OF YORK (0) 2
CostaschukM1,Lawrence1,Padley1
Priory were at home this week entertaining bottom of the table side Duke of York. On paper this should have been a comfortable game for the Priory with the Duke of York not having won a league fixture to date. However this match proved to be a very tight game with Duke of York looking anything like a bottom of the table side.
The first half saw very few chances created by either side. Neither teams were able to stamp their authority on the game. Yet is was the Priory that broke the deadlock with a goal from Michael Costachuck.
The second half saw the Priory establish a 2-0 lead when a penalty was awarded after some neat play saw James Leask tripped in the Duke of York penalty box. The penalty kick was converted by Aaron Laurence.
However the game was far from over with Duke of York continuing to press forward. Their spirited response resulted in another penalty decision, this time given against the Priory keeper for pushing whilst defending from a corner. With the game set at 2-1 with some 30 minutes left the match was looking like it could go either way. The Duke of York goalkeeper brought off a number of great saves to deny the Priory.
Despite the 2-1 advantage to Priory, Priory were still not at their best. Yet they were able to extend their lead when a Karl Padley shot from outside the box beat the Duke of York keeper and went in off the post. Duke of York came back into the game and another penalty was awarded to them after James Leask bought down a Duke of York striker running onto goal. With the score line standing at 3-2 to the Priory the last 15 minutes was a very tense affair. Both sides had made all their substitutions by this point in the game. In the end Priory managed to hold out for the result. This tightly fought game now see's Priory Reserves move up into 4th place in the league.

NUTFIELD RESERVES (0) 2 REIGATE PRIORY RESERVES (2) 6
Avery1,Reid1,Morley1,Lidbury2,Chandler1
This was the first encounter between Reigate Priory and Nutfield for many years, despite both teams having played in the Redhill and District League for many years. In addition this was the first time in six years that Reigate Priory Reserves have competed in this competition since they have previously been ineligible to play with the Priory 1st team being in the same Senior Section. With the Priory 1st team now playing in the Crawley Premier League this saw Priory Reserves in the Senior Cup draw for 2007-08.
Nutfield started the brighter sided and within the first five minutes of the game they could have easily been 2-0 up. Some neat wing play from Nutfield caught the Priory defence asleep and both chances saw Nutfield strikers in the penalty box with just the keeper to beat. Fortunately for the Priory the Nutfield attack was not proving to be ruthless in front of goal. However this was an early indication that a young Nutfield side had the ability to cause Priory problems.
Priory started to settle down after 15 minutes of play and eventually took the lead. The long throws of Aaron Laurence started to cause Nutfield a number of defensive problems and eventually one resulted in Priory midfielder Stuart Morley scoring via a header from this set piece. It was the Priory who extended the lead when Ben Lidbury cut inside from the wing and a decisive shot made it 2-0 to the Priory.
After half time is was Priory who took the game to Nutfield and goals from Gavin Chandler and Bret Avery saw Priory take a 4-0 lead. However the game was still not over as Nutfield again got into the game and scored two good goals to put the pressure on Priory. A penalty kick awarded to Nutfield looked like opening the game wide open but a fine save from Bradley Martin saw Nutfield miss this opportunity. At this stage Priory lifted their game and two quick goals, one again from Luke Reid and the second for Ben Lidbury saw the game finally go Priory's way.

REED (0) 0 REIGATE PRIORY RESERVES (2) 2
Avery1,Reid1
Having suffered an early exit last week in the 1st round of the Surrey Cup Reigate Priory were looking to continue with their good league form. Playing a well organised Reed side proved to be a difficult match. This regular fixture of the last few seasons has always proven to be a competitive affair but one which has always been played in a good spirit. Priory took an early lead with some neat play resulting in a move down the right with Bret Avery taking the ball pass the Reed defender and slotting the ball home into the bottom corner of the net. Reed continued to take the game to Priory and showed their strength in midfield with some neat passing football. But it was Priory who had the better opportunities of the first half with Luke Reed seeing his shot saved at close range after a cross into the centre of the Reed penalty box. However Luke Reed got the second Priory goal midway through the first half.
The second half saw Reed have most of the possession and mid way through the second half they came close to scoring with a shot rebounding off the Priory goal post. A number of fine saves by Priory keeper Bradley Martin denied Reed the chance to get back into the game. With the game stretched out Priory had a great chance to finish the game off when Luke Reed was clean through with only the goalkeeper to beat, but a fine save by the Reed keeper saw the chance go missing. Reed continued to pressure but in the end Priory managed to retain their early lead.

NORK SOCIAL (2) 2 REIGATE PRIORY RESERVES (1) 3
Lawrence2,OG1
This fixture proved to be a competitive match between two teams trying to enter the top half of the Redhill and District League Division 1. Reigate Priory looked the more sharper in the first 15 minutes. This resulted in some neat play with a Aaron Laurence taking the ball pass the Nork left back and slotting it into the bottom corner of the net. But Nork took advantage of some poor defending by the Priory when a move down the right hand side of play saw the ball crossed across the penalty box and slotted home by the Nork attack. Again Priory continued to pressure and saw some good chances missed. Luke Reid for Priory looked like scoring when a through pass saw him with just the goalkeeper to beat, but a fine save saw the opportunity missed. Another attack by Nork resulted in them taking the lead by again slotting the ball home at close angle.
The second half saw Priory take the game to Nork with most of the play in the Nork half. Half way during the second half a shot by Stuart Morley was deflected into the Nork goal by a Nork defender. The continued pressure resulted in a penalty being awarded to Priory with 10 minutes of the game remaining. The penalty was converted by Aaron Laurence. The return fixture at Reigate Priory will certainly prove to be an interesting encounter.

Reigate Priory Reserves were away to Smallfield Reserves in what has become a regular fixture over the years in the Redhill & District League Division 1. Both teams were looking for good performances with the Priory having won their first league fixture and Smallfield suffering an away defeat the week before. The first half was a very tight affair with few chances for both teams. Changes were made by both sides for the second half with Marshall and Keeling coming on for the Priory. The second half proved to be a much more open game with near misses for both sides. Priory's best chance fell to Matt Moss who took the ball around the keep just to see his strike on goal cleared off the line. Smallfield pushed a number of players forward and came close on a number of occasions with Priory keeper Martin making some excellent saves. With the game looking like it was going to be decided by a single goal Smallfield took the lead with 10 minutes of the game left. A through ball caught the Priory defence off guard and Smallfield took advantage with a neat lob of the keeper. Despite the game looking like it was going Smallfields way Priory continued to push forward and in the last minutes of the game they were awarded a free kick. A neat ball in from Reid saw Jowett head the ball for the equaliser. With the game finishing a draw on reflection this would appear to be a fair result.

REIGATE PRIORY RESERVES (2) 4 TATSFIELD ROVERS (0) 1
Morley2,Balcombe1,Moss1
Saturday saw the start of the league season for Reigate Priory Reserves against Division 1 new comers Tatsfield Rovers. The game started at quite a high tempo with both sides looking to attack early on. The first 10 minutes of the game was a very close affair. Within 15 minutes Priory had lost Rob Randall to an injury being replaced by Priory new comer Alex Monk. Priory look an early lead when Matt Moss flicked on a neat pass for Stuart Morley to burst through the Tatsfield defence and place his shot in the bottom left corner of the net. Tatsfield continued to pressure and had a number of good chances in the first half. However Priory took advantage of poor decision by the Tatsfield keeper when he bought Luke Reid on the edge of the box. Gareth Balcombe converted the penalty.
The start of the second half saw the Reigate take an early lead with a cross that caused confusion in the Tatsfield defence with some neat work again by Matt Moss enabling Stuart Morley to put another chance away in front of goal. After this Tatsfield took the game to Priory and had the better of the second half and they had a number of good opportunities to score. In the end a through ball beat the Priory defence and Tatsfield converted their chance. With the game opening up Priory took advantage of another cross into the Tatsfield defence for Matt Moss to score.
Overall it was a very competitive game with a good result for Reigate Priory reserves.
