Reigate Priory "B" Team played their final league fixture in the Redhill and District League Division 4 away to Abgene Eagles on Saturday afternoon.   The match was played in warm and sunny conditions at Crawley.   Priory began brightly and took the lead after 10 minutes when a header from midfielder Jeremy Garrett to striker Graham Thomas was executed into the right hand corner of Abgene's net.   However, Agene Eagles hit back scoring two goals within 5 minutes.   Priory were then dealt a further blow just before half time, when an Abgene corner was met with a fine header in by one of their defenders.   Half time score 3-1 to Abgene Eagles.   Into the second half and Abgene this time took the initiative and launched a series of attacks towards Priory's goal, resulting in two further goals.   The lack of match practice seemed to be getting to Priory, and they were forced to play the final 20 minutes with 10 men, when midfielder Michael Ainsworth sustained a twisted ankle.   Final score 5-1 to Abgene Eagles.   The result means that Priory finish the season in 5th place in their division.

Saturday 8th April 2006  Reigate Priory 1    Horley Town 'A'  1

                                                          Mottram1

Reigate Priory 1st Team in second place ,went into this game needing all 3 points to keep the pressure on Limpsfield Blues who have games in hand. Unable to play their home fixture at Park Lane , Priory had to deal with a terrible playing surface at Lower Kingswood. With top goal scorer Charles Reid pulling out in the warm up and with Horley Town up for the challenge , Priory struggled to get their football going. With Horley challenging fiercely for every ball , Priory found it difficult to create chances. However , Priory took the lead when from Wheelers' free kick , Horleys' keeper was unable to gather under Balcombs challenge and the ball fell kindly for Mottram to net from close range. 1-0 HT.

In the second half Priory knew what to expect , with the wind at Horleys' back , long ball tactic was forthcoming. Within minutes of the restart a cross into the box was not cleared and Horley snatched their equaliser. Priory continued to play for the winner and when Reynolds was clear inside the box , the keeper smothered his shot and the ball was cleared. Horley themselves almost won the match when a shot from outside the box hit the post. With Avery and Rolands coming on for Lidbury and Wilmot , Priory again tried to create the openings. When the final whistle on Priorys season came, the reflection came that the point earned was not going to be enough to keep Limpsfield away from runners up position, especially with the news that Limpsfield were awarded the 3 points for a Marlpit no show. All that said, Priorys young side finished the season with a 7 game unbeaten run taking 17 points out of a possible 21.

Sunday 2nd April 2006  Reigate Priory 1    South Park  4

                                         Chandler1

Last Sunday the Vets were at it again. Wearing the clubs new colours , which are in fact the old colours of 1870 , and some can remember back that far, the team had hoped for better things in the South Park rematch. Playing against the wind in the first half the team did well to hold the score to 0-0. South Park pretty much dominated play , although Avery should have scored when he was set clear by Stevens. In the second half in typical Vets fashion , Priory scored 3 times , conceded a penalty and still managed to lose 4-1. Unfortunately 2 were own goals. Chandler came on in the final 30 , cos thats all we could afford under the terms and conditions of his contract and went on to score Priorys only goal. An enjoyable final match at the Priory as our Cricketers now take over. Suffice to say all in the bar afterwards with South Park the last to leave. Thanks Guys ! Oh Yes , need to mention Jacks Dad , Mark who was superb !

Saturday 1st April 2006  Frenches Reserves  1  Reigate Priory 'B'  0

5th placed Reigate Priory "B" Team played their penultimate league fixture in the Redhill and District League Division 4 away to 4th placed local rival Frenches Reserves on Saturday afternoon.   The match was played in cool, and very windy conditions at Reigate.   The first half began with Frenches taking advantage of the strong wind blowing in their favour, resulting in their taking the lead after just 10 minutes when an intended cross was miss-hit from the right hand side of the penalty area and squeezed past stand in goalkeeper Bill Comben.   Frenches continued to attack Priory's defence for the next 20 minutes, but this time were denied by good Priory defending.   Priory then began to come into the match towards the end of the first half, with Daniel Flint only denied right at the end of the half by a superb diving save by Frenches' goalkeeper.   Half time score 1-0 to Frenches.   The second half began with Frenches starting the better side again, but this time they were unable to make a breakthrough.   Then with 20 minutes to go, Priory at last began to take control of the game, and started to attack Frenches defence with a series of attacking moves.   However, despite some fine moves and shots on goal, particularly by midfielders Michael Ainsworth and Richard Stephens, they were unable to get the breakthrough for the equaliser.   Final score 1-0 to Frenches, after a hard fought evenly matched encounter.   The result leaves Priory in 5th place in the division with just one match to play.

U10s ACHIEVE THE DOUBLE

Saturday 25th March 2006  Reigate Priory U10s   4   Horsley 'B' U10s   0

Team Photo

Following on from their success in the Cup Final the previous weekend, Priory duly completed the League and Cup double by winning 4-0 against Horsley B on Saturday.  Fortunately for both players and spectators, the conditions were far more pleasant than the previous weekend, with very little wind.   Priory got off to a flying start after only 30 seconds when Charlie Dockery shot from the edge of the box and the ball flew into the corner of the net. The game then settled into a pattern familiar to those who have watched the team this season, with Priory dominating possession and going close on several occasions. After 15 minutes, an excellent interchange between Charlie Bramhall and Charlie Dockery saw Dockery chip it over the goalkeeper for the second. At the other end, although Horsley had some lively forwards, they never really threatened Louis Russell-Watts' goal, and it was no surprise when Bramhall broke clear soon before half-time to add the third. In the second half, the game became a bit scrappy and Horsley gave as good as they got, although still not really creating any clear-cut chances. The only goal of the second half came from another long-range shot from Dockery, who therefore completed a well-deserved hat-trick.  After the final whistle, the team celebrated winning the league with three games still to play. They now need to concentrate on winning their last three games, as their overall playing record will influence the division in which they play next season. They are on course to have the highest goals total and the lowest goals conceded total in all six divisions of the league, which would be a great achievement.

Congratulations to all the boys!

Saturday 25th March 2006  Charlwood   0   Reigate priory  2

                                                                           Balcombe1 , Wheeler1

Priory continued in their winning ways with a hard fought victory over Charlwood. In deteriating weather conditions Priory worked hard in the first half but were not able to create the openings. With Morley and Reid absent Priory took a while to settle in a changed line up, with Balcombe moving up front with Sinnick and Mottram slotting in to right midfield. Charlwood made good use of their tall Striker and carved out some good openings but were unable to convert. The experienced Charlwood defence looked comfortable and able to deal with what Priory had to offer. Goalless at halftime Priory brought on Reynolds and with the pep talk requesting more effort the second half saw Priory start with more intent. Within ten minutes Mottram whipped in a superb cross which was met with a diving header by Balcombe , 1-0. Priory now began to settle and create more opportunities. Marshall and Branton started to find more space and Mottram and Lidbury were making more runs down the flanks. Priory still had to work hard at the back to contain Charlwoods aerial threat. Priory’s defence of Wilmott , Chapman , Wheeler and Hogg stood firm. Priory increased their lead when a long range free kick from Wheeler slipped through the keeper’s hands to find the net. With the game becoming more stretched Priory had some further opportunities but were unable to increase their lead. A valuable 3 points that consolidates Priory’s position in second place. Priory now rely on the chasing trio of Horley Town, Limpsfield and Marlpit to drop points and Priory’s last game against Horley Town on the 8th April is set up for a nail biter.

Saturday 25th March 2006  Reigate Priory Reserves   1    South Godstone  6

Reigate Priory Reserves played their final league match of the season at home to top of the table side South Godstone on Saturday 25 March 2006.   The match was played in cool and wet conditions at Reigate Priory's home pitch.   Priory had been forced to field a weakened side, due to injury and work commitments, but started brightly and held there own for the first 10 minutes.  However,  South Godstone were then gifted 2 rather lucky goals from Priory defensive mix ups.   Godstone increased their lead further on the 25 minute mark, and also missed a dubiously penalty, awarded for handball, by a Priory defender.   However, Priory then began to get back into the match resulting in the best goal of the game when a move down the right wing was crossed into Godstone's penalty area was superbly volleyed into the net by Andy Crossley, to reduce the score to 3-1.   Just before half time, South Godstone restored their 3 goal advantage with another this time coolly taken headed goal from a cross on the right wing.   Half time score 4-1 to South Godstone.   Into the second half, and the match proceeded with South Godstone launching a series of attacks, culminating in 2 further goals, but also they were also thwarted many times, due to resilient defence from Priory and a series of fine saves by stand in goalkeeper Martin Connelly.   Final score 6-1 to South Godstone, who have been by fat the best team in Division 1 of the Redhill & District League this season.   Priory Reserves, whilst ending the season on a low note, do still have the satisfaction of finishing in 4th place in the division.

Saturday 25th March 2006  RH123 Reserves   3    Reigate Priory 'B'  3

Reigate Priory "B" Team played away against top of the table side RH123 Reserves fixture in the Redhill and District League Division 4 against Caterham Old Boys "A" Team on Saturday 25 March.   The match was played in cool and wet conditions at Reigate Priory Park.   In what was to prove an end to end encounter, RH123 took the lead after 15 minutes, but were Priory equalised just 5 minutes later, when striker Richard Stephens scored direct from a corner.   RH123 then proceeded to attack with regularity, but were foiled by a series of fine saves by goalkeeper Bradley Martin.   Then, with just 2 minutes to go before half time, RH123 retook the lead, when an attacking move on Priory's right defence was executed with a superb finish by RH123's centre forward.   Half time score 2-1 to RH123.   Into the second half and Priory began to come more into the match resulting with a fine equalising goal by Daniel Flint after 60 minutes.   However, RH123 showed why they are top of the league by retaking the lead for the third time almost immediately.   Priory then had to face a series of attacks by RH123, which they managed to rebuff, and then from a breakaway move equalised for the third time with 10 minutes when a through ball from defender Malcolm Robinson was expertly tucked away by Daniel Flint.   Neither side was able to convert any further chances into goals and so the final score was 3-3.   Priory can take great heart from this result against clearly the best side in their division.   They remain in 5th place in their Division with 2 games remaining, but still with a possibility of finishing in 3rd place.

WE WON THE CUP!

UNDER 10s LEAGUE CUP FINAL

Cup Winners Photo

Saturday 18th March 2006  Reigate priory U10s  3  Old Coulsdon Colts B  0

In the most difficult conditions they have encountered all season, Priory's Under-10's dominated a scrappy game to win the first half of what they hope will be a League and Cup double.

The match was played at Old Walcountians in Woodmansterne, in a very cold, biting cross-wind which made control of the ball very difficult for all of the players. Priory lost the toss and therefore had to play the first half uphill against a significant slope.
Both teams struggled to find their rhythm and it was ten minutes before Priory created their first openings, with Johnny Partner and Charlie Bramhall going close. Old Coulsdon Colts battled hard in the midfield and denied Priory space, and got through on one occasion to lob a high bouncing ball into the area which was safely gathered by golakeeper Louis Russell-Watts. Apart from that one occasion, the Priory defence of Matthew Norman, Michael Stephen and Alexandro Zaccarini stood firm and did not look like conceding. However, at the other end, things were tough for the attacking trio of Charlie Bramhall, Johnny Partner and Charlie Bramhall, who struggled to find space against a determined defence. It was no surprise that the first half ended goalless.
After a halftime peptalk, Priory started the second half more impressively and took advantage of the slope to dominate their opponents, forcing a number of corners and throw-ins. After ten minutes, from one long throw from Charlie Dockery, Michael Stephen, on a rare foray upfield, burst onto the ball and slotted it part the 'keeper for the opening goal.
With the goal advantage, Priory relaxed and started to play with more confidence. It wasn't long before substitute Felix Saro-Wiwa, on in place of Partner, produced a great piece of skill, dribbling past two defenders and finishing in style for the second goal.
Thereafter, although Old Coulsdon continued to fight hard for every ball, Priory dominated possession and from one excellent move down the right, involving four players, Charlie Bramhall outpaced the defence before slipping the ball past the goalkeeper.
Attackers Lucas Desclos-Dukes and Peter Stephen came on in the final minutes to replace Zaccarini and Bramhall, and might have scored a fourth themselves, but by then the game was safe.
After the final whistle sounded, players, coaches and supporters quickly forgot about the wind chill factor and joined in celebrations, which culminated in captain Michael Stephen going up to collect the Cup.
Attention will now switch to the league, where Priory, who are unbeaten since September, now only need one point from their four remaining matches to become champions, and could therefore secure the title at home next Saturday.

Sunday 19th March 2006  Priory Intercity  5   Grange Park  2

Intercity went top of the Division 2 Redhill & District Sunday League with a 5-2 win over Grange Park. Every was in top form clinching 4 goals. With Langshott Rangers losing , Intercity have a great chance of securing the title , needing one point from their final game.

Saturday 18th March 2006  Marlpit  0   Reigate priory  2

                                                Marshall1,Sinnock1

With 4 points covering 2nd to 8th spot in the Premier Division, the race for runners up is hotting up, with Priory currently 3rd coming up against Marlpit in 2nd place. Again a weekend of difficult playing conditions of strong winds and drying pitches made football difficult to play. Marlpit , with the wind behind them in the 1st half started with intent , with Priory lodged deep in their own half for the first 15 mins. It took a fine save from Shearman in goal to keep the game goalless in this period. Priory did eventually start puting their offensive game together and Wheeler went close from a tight angle to bring out a great save from the Marlpit keeper. Whilst Marlpit had most of the game Priorys pace up front and on the flanks still caused problems to Marlpits defence. From a corner , Priory took the lead , when Marshalls header found the corner.

1-0 at half time.

In the 2nd half , with the wind at Priorys back , defending became easier and Priory started to mount pressure on the Marlpit defence. Reid and Sinnock were always dangerous , and when Sinnock was put through was able to slot the second . Marlpit responded and almost pulled one back , but from some heroic defending and Shearman again pulling off another great save from close range. Priory could have put the game beyond reach when Lidburys shot skimmed the bar. This was another good team performance in difficult condions. All dues to the subs Mottram and Avery who were patient in the cold conditions and came on and work hard to support the team secure the points. Branton gave a captains performance keeping the troups disciplined. Marshall in midfield challenged everything and Lidbury on the left made some good attacking runs. Balcombe again provided some visionary passing and the defence of Willmott , Chapman , Wheeler and Hogg did well to keep the clean sheet.

Saturday 18th March 2006  Caterham OB 'A'   1    Reigate priory 'B'   2

Reigate Priory "B" Team played away against Caterham Old Boys "A" Team on Saturday 18 March.   The match was played in very cold and blustery muddy conditions at Caterham Hill.   The first half was progressed with neither side being able to make a breakthrough, due to the poor conditions and resolute defending by both sides.   Half time score 0-0.   Into the second half and again neither side was able to make the vital breakthrough to score until midway through the half when a fine run through on goal by midfielder Neil Mellor resulted in Priory taking the lead.   However Caterham responded with a series of attacks culminating in the equaliser with 15 minutes remaining.   Both sides then had further scoring chances, but with no success.   Then with just 2 minutes remaining, Priory were awarded a free kick just outside Caterham's penalty area.   Captain Daniel Flint took the kick and scored with an unstoppable shot into the top right hand corner of the net.

2-1 to Priory and this remained the final score.

Saturday 11th March 2006  Reigate Priory  4    Bookham 'A'  3

                                                        Reid1,Sinnock1

                                                                Balcombe1,Seldon1

In a game of many twists and turns Reigate Priory came out winners with a last minute stunner from Tim Seldon. In a game that should never have been this close Priory started as if they were going to run away with it. Playing some fluent football Priory created opening upon opening and but for some fine goalkeeping could have been 4 goals up in the first 20 minutes. The goal came when Sinnocks right footed shot went high and left of the diving keeper. Defensively Priory looked secure with Shearman little to do in the first half. The second half started well for Priory, and they were able to secure a 2 goal advantage when Reid slotted the ball home under the keepers body. At this point all look rosey but then Bookham started to compete and close down and Priory started to get agitated and lost their focus. With Bookham now having more of the game , chances were created and they were able to reduce the deficit to one goal. Bookham then were awarded a direct freekick on the edge of Priorys box. The left footed strike that followed found the corner of the goal, 2-2. With Priory still reeling from the shock of throwing away a 2 goal lead , the worst happened , and Bookham netted their third. With substitutions being made Priory went 3-4-3 in an attempt to recover the game. With Seldon moving up front , Priory got their act together again and started presuring the Bookham goal and multiple chances were being created. Following a goal mouth scramble Balcombe stretched with a right footed scoop to equalise. Knowing a draw was never going to be enough Priory sought the winner . Then Seldon , receiving the ball on the right hand corner of the penalty area whipped in a blistering left footed in swinging shot which found the top corner. 4-3.

Priory have now pulled themselves up to second equal with Marlpit who they face next week.

Saturday 11th March 2006  Reigate Priory 'B'  4  Caterham OB 'A'  4

Reigate Priory "B" Team played their final home fixture in the Redhill and District League Division 4 against Caterham Old Boys "A" Team on Saturday afternoon. The match was played in cool, and muddy conditions at Lower Kingswood.
The first half began with Caterham taking the initiative from the kick off using the advantage of kicking downhill.
They put together some good attacking moves, culminating with 2 goals with the first 25 minutes. The first from an unchallenged run and shot from the edge of Priory's penalty area, and the second from a controversially awarded penalty. Worse was to come for Priory with just 5 minutes to go of the first half when Caterham scored again when the defence was caught out from a breakaway through ball.
Half time score 3-0 to Caterham Old Boys.
However, the second half was to prove once again the determination and tenacity of Stuart Porte's squad of young and experienced players. Within 10 minutes of the restart, Priory had pulled back their deficit to 3-2 through fine individual goals scored by Michael Ainsworth and Richard Stephens.
Priory's fight back then appeared to be brought to a sudden halt midway through the half, when a free kick on the edge of their penalty area resulted in Caterham restoring a two goal advantage following a wicked deflection off Priory's defensive wall, which gave young goalkeeper Bradley Martin no chance. 4-2 to Caterham. Both sides then continued to launch attacking moves, with both hitting the post.
However, Priory's resilience was at last rewarded with 15 minutes to go when Michael Ainsworth scored his second goal of the match following a scramble inside the Caterham penalty area. Then with just 5 minutes to go they completed a superb come back when midfielder Neil Mercer latched onto a through ball from defence to beat the offside trap and score.
Goalkeeper Bradley Martin then produced a superb save diving to his left inside the final 2 minutes of the game to make the final score 4-4, after an action packed encounter between two committed sides.
The result leaves Priory in 5th place in the division, but still with everything to play for in their final 4 away league matches.

Saturday 11th March 2006  Reigate Priory U10s 5    Whyteleafe 'B'  0

Under-10's within touching distance

Another fine performance from Priory in their penultimate home match of the season took them to within four points of the league title, with four matches still to play. It was all the more impressive given that many of the team had already played two rugby matches for their school that morning! Against a spirited and useful Whyteleafe side, who themselves are in contention for third place in the table, Priory struggled early on to find the breakthrough. A few changes were necessary this week due to absences, with Matthew Norman and Peter Stephen doing stints in goal to fill in for missing goalkeeeper Louis Russell-Watts, but the defence continued to look very strong and restricted the opposition to only a couple of meaningful chances in the whole match.
The first goal came after about ten minutes when centre-forward Charlie Bramhall scored from close range after good work by Felix Saro-Wiwa and Jonny Partner. A few minutes later, Priory were awarded a free-kick about twenty yards out and captain Michael Stephen unleashed a trademark shot which flew around the wall and into the top corner for one of the goals of the season.
Thereafter, although Whyteleafe continued to battle well, Priory were always in control and after an own goal had made it three, Michael Stephen broke clear from the halfway line to slot his second and the team's fourth. The scoring was completed by substitute Lucas Desclos-Dukes, finishing off an excellent move.

The team are now looking forward eagerly to the League Cup Final next Saturday against Old Coulsdon Colts.

Team: M Norman, A Zaccarini, M Stephen, C Dockery, J Partner, F Saro-Wiwa, C Bramhall, P Stephen, A Desclos-Dukes, F Pearce

Sunday 5th March 2006  Sutton Utd U10s 1    Reigate Priory U10s  1    (Surrey Under-10 Interleague Cup)

(extra time, Sutton won 3-1 on penalites)

Priory played their hearts out in the last 16 of the Surrey Under-10 Interleague Cup on Sunday, against a team who on paper were four divisions above them, and were desperately unlucky to go out on penalties.
It was very clear from the outset that the teams were evenly matched and Priory shaded the first ten minutes, going close on a couple of occasions before Charlie Bramhall broke clear of the defence and slotted past the goalkeeper to give Priory the lead. Thereafter, Sutton started to pressure the Priory defence and Louis Russell-Watts in goal had his busiest day of the season, but the score remained at 1-0 until halftime.
After the break, it was fairly end-to-end with both sides going close. Midway thorugh the half, from a right-wing corner, one of the Sutton forwards powered a firm header goalwards and although he managed to get his head to it, Charlie Dockery on the line was unable to stop it going in for the equaliser.
For the remainder of normal time, both sides pushed forward trying to win and the Sutton 'keeper made two excellent saves from Bramhall and Dockery to keep Sutton in it.
Extra time was dominated by Priory and they should have had a penalty when Charlie Bramhall was brought down two yards insdie the box, only for the referee to give a free kick outside the box. From that kick, Michael Stephen struck a shot which a Sutton defender appeared to handle, but again the referee did not give the penalty.
At the end of extra time , it was time for penalties and the physical size of the Sutton goalkeeper made him very difficult to beat. Sutton themsleves hit some very good penalites and finally won the shootout 3-1.
Although very disappointed to lose, Priory can take great satisfaction from the way that they tested themselves against one of the strongest sides in the area (on paper) and were the better side. Time now to concentrate on the League and Cup double!

Saturday 4th March 2006  Reigate Priory  3    Limpsfield Blues    2

                                                    Marshall1,Reid1,OG1

Following the shock 5-0 away win to Limpsfield earlier this season Priory were preparing for a Limpsfield team fired up for revenge. However it was Priory that got off to a flyer with Tom Marshall , on his return , slotting the ball home within 5 mins from a corner. This spurred on Limpsfield who upped the tempo and had sustained periods of pressure. The inevitable equaliser came with a feroucious shot which was in the net before Shearman could move. The game moved towards half time with Limpsfield having their fair share of possession , but Priory always looked dangerous on the break with the pace of Reid up front. Within 2 mins of the restart , Reid was set free of the Limpsfield defence and with the keeper advancing place his shot low into the goal. Limpsfield again found themselves behind and pushed forward for the equaliser. Morley , Willmott , Hog with Chapman sweeping work hard to defend and the midfield of Balcombe , Marshall, Branton and the returning Seldon continued to protect the back four. Limpsfield got their equaliser when Priory lost possesion in their own half and a slotted pass enabled the Blues striker to lift his shot over the advancing Shearman. 2-2 and everything to play for. Reynolds came on for Sinnock and Lidbury for Seldon. Fresh legs and a desire to get all 3 points and Priory started creating opportunities. Within minutes of coming on Lidbury was clean through but his shot did not trouble the keeper. Within minutes again Lidbury was set free from a superb Balcombe through ball , this time Lidburys cross shot deflected off the Blues defender into the goal. With 10 mins remaining Priory worked hard to close down the Limpsfield attacks and were able to close out the game as 3-2 winners- phew!

However, it was not all plan sailing and there were clearly some nerves in the Priory team early on, when both sides had chances. Priory started to increase the pressure as the first half wore on and eventually a fine move culminated in Michael Stephen beating the Banstead goalkeeper with a hard low shot.
Thereafter, Priory relaxed and started to play excellent football and early in the second half, subsititute Felix Saro-Wiwa stabbed in a second from close range. Centre-forward Charlie Bramhall gave the Banstead problems throughout the game and a fine solo run was finished with an excellent left-foot shot for the third. He then also scored a header from a superb cross by Saro-Wiwa, who completed the scoring with a delightful chip over the goalkeeper into the top corner.

Sunday 26th February 2006  South Park VETS  3   Reigate Priory VETS  2

Team Photo ( Click for pics )                                          Frost 1 , Avery 1

If you looking for some strange entertainment watching a load of old geezers try an relive their hey day and play football , and Im not just talking about Nigel Lomas then South Park was the place to be. Priorys' team put together by Team Manager Andy Chatfield, first challenge was to get into the kit and the Warm Up really was about how many jumpers you could get on. Nevertheless , Priory put up a game off it. Comden in goal , had a lot of of work to do , and did well to limit the opposition to 3 goals . Whilst South Park always looked in control Priory had their moments. Frost coming in from the right scored a looping long range shot which gave the keeper no chance. Priory had a further opportunity in the first half when Avery's shot from distance skimmed the bar , half time 2-1 to South Park. Lomath , Chatfield worked hard in midfield and Priorys defence of Cook , Chapman , Lomas , Porte and Brend were busy. Chris Keeping on the the left had some nice touches and linked well with the midfield. Dave Lishman also in Priorys midfield , at 65 years of age , was an inspiration to us all - just goes to show you never have to hang up your boots ! Priory saved their best to last when Ray Connolly came on up front in the second half making the combined age of Priorys strike force 105 years of age, and no Ray was not the only one up front . South Park extended their lead through a penalty. Whilst South Park had opportunities to extend their lead it was Priory that were able to reduce the deficit when Johnny Vezza ( The Italian Stallion) broke into the box and hit a left foot shot which was parried by the keeper , only for the ball to fall to Avery who converted. For pictures click on above. Ray Connolly who arrived late , didnt make the team photo , but was captured later !

Saturday 25th February 2006  Reigate Priory U10s  4        Ashtead Colts 'B' U10s   0

In very difficult, cold and windy conditions, Priory Under-10's continued their winning ways with a comfortable 4-0 victory over a spirited Ashtead team, whose goalkeeper produced an excellent performance.
The first half, which saw Priory kicking into the teeth of the wind, was tight and although Priory had most of the ball, they found it difficult to carve out clear chances. Eventually, though, the pressure told and from a Charlie Dockery corner on the left, Michael Stephen planted a firm header into the far corner for the opening goal.
After the break, with the wind at their backs, Priory started to string some passes together and it was pretty much one-way traffic. After a strong shot from Dockery had been deflected into the top corner by a defender, a neat move involving four players ended up with Charlie Bramhall bursting clear and tucking it past the keeper for 3-0. Michael Stephen then completed the scoring from close range following an interchange of passes with Felix Saro-Wiwa.
The win was pleasing against tricky opponents who had held Priory to a 2-2 draw earlier in the season and takes us into second place in the table behind AFC Banstead. Banstead are our visitors next Saturday in a match which will go a long way to deciding the league title.

Saturday 25th February 2006  Reigate Priory  2        Marlpit   2

                                                      Reynolds 1, Sinnock 1

On an extremely windy afternoon on a bumpy service Priory had the opportunity to gain ground on 2nd placed Marlpit. Playing against the strong wind Priory struggled to get control of the ball which disrupted their normal game plan. In a strange game , when Priory were able to string the passes together they looked the more likely to score. With 5 minutes of the first half remaining Reid broke the offside trap and was away down the right flank , his driven cross found Reynolds at the far post who neatly converted. In the second half Priory looked for the second but unfortunately were caught on the break. The Marlpit striker was brought down in the the box and the penalty was converted. Again Priory went on the attack and saw chances go begging. Marlpit again caught Priory on the break , the forthcoming shot was saved by Shearman but fell to a Marlpit player following up , who converted. Now finding themselves 2-1 down , Priory put greater urgency into their attacks and achieved their equaliser when Sinnock forced the ball over the line.

Saturday 18th February 2006  Reigate Priory  2        Kenley  0

                                                     Reynolds 1, Sinnock 1

Following some recent encouraging performances Reigate Priory needed 3 points from this fixture to start moving up the table. With difficult playing conditions the key to victory was to use the width maximising the pace of the side. New signing Balcombe settled in well alongside Branton in midfield linking up with Reid and Marshall on the Flanks. The developing front two relationship of Sinnock and Reynolds were putting presure on the Kenley defence. Priorys breakthrough came when Reynolds reacted at pace off a 'fllick on' to blaze his shot in off the underside of the bar. Kenley tried to respond and came close to equalising when a number of through balls gave one on one opportunities, but Shearman in goal bravely smothered at the attackers feet on both occassions. In the second half Priory were keen to extend their lead to avoid nail biteing finishes which they had experianced in previous weeks against Clarkson and Sala. Shearman came on for Reynolds and performed well up front with Sinnock. As the game entered its final stages Priory were able to exploit increasing space up front and Reid started to get in behind the Kenley defence. Priory achieved their second when Sinnock broke free , darted in to the box , a drove a low shot in off the post. Priory could have made it three when the pacey Reid whipped in a low cross , and but for a fine save from the Kenley keeper, Lidbury would have netted. Priorys back four of Wilmott , Morley Chapman and Hog looked solid throughout , and the team now needs to build on this as they face Marlpit next week.

Saturday 18th February 2006  Reigate Priory 'B'  3     Westcott 'A'   1

Reigate Priory "B" Team got back to their winning ways after two poor results, to record their 10th league victory of the season in their latest Redhill and District Division 4 league match at home to Westcott on Saturday afternoon.
The match was played in cool, and wet conditions at Lower Kingswood.
The match began, evenly, with neither side able to adapt very well to the muddy conditions. However midway through the first half, Priory took the lead when a through ball to Neil Mercer was executed by Priory's right wing with a run past the Westcott goalkeeper and a shot from an acute angle on the right hand side of the penalty area. 1-0 to Priory.
10 minutes later and Priory increased their lead when captain Daniel Flint battled well in midfield and passed through to striker Graham Thomas, who scored with a cool finish under the Westcott goalkeeper.
This left the half time score 2-0 to Reigate Priory.
Into the second half, and Westcott began to come back in to the match, culminating with a goal 10 minutes after the restart from a header, following a free kick on the right hand edge of Priory's penalty area. However, this proved to be just a premature setback to Priory's winning ambition, as 5 minutes later, they regained their 2 goal lead. The goal came from a free kick taken by captain Daniel Flint just outside Westcott's right hand side of their penalty area. Flint's long high kick was completely miss-judged by Westcott's goalkeeper, who let the ball pass over his outstretched hands straight into the goal.
As the weather conditions worsened , neither side was able to launch any real goal threatening attacks before the final whistle blew.
Final score 3-1 to Reigate Priory, who consolidated their 4th place in the division.

Saturday 11th February 2006 Clarkson Hyde  2  Reigate Priory  1

                                                                                   Reid 1 (pen)

Reigate Priory went to Premiership leaders Clarkson Hyde and put in an excellent performance and deserved at least a point from this encounter , only to conceed in the final minutes of the game. Clarkson , a very big and experianced side played to their strengths. Marshall and Branton worked well in the middle and when Priory used their pace and played the game on the ground, caused Clarkeson problems. Sinnock lead the line well, and Reynolds , coming into the team for the first time was impressive. Priory achieved the breakthrough when Reid's pace was too much for the defender, and was brought down in the penalty box. Reid converted from the spot to score his 4th goal in as many games. Shortly afterwards Priory opened up their opponents defence, only to see Marshalls close range shot blaze over the bar. Clarkeson continued to have their fair share of the game and a quick break , following a Priory corner, saw an excellant shot from the edge of the box loop over Shearman in the Priory goal. Half time 1-1.

In the second half Priory continued to take the game to Clarkson but Clarkson were additionally creative and Shearman pulled off an amazing save from the Clarkson striker , responding instinctively to a header. The game started to change in Clarksons favour when Branton was taken off with a blooded nose and the team began to miss his organistional skills. With minutes remaining Clarkson broke the deadlock when Priory just could not close down the Clarkson move and a strike from outside the box squeezed passed Shearmans dive just inside the post. 17 year old Daniel Flint came on for the final 15 mins and played well creating a number of good opportunities for Sinnock and also nearly scored himself. Christoforo came on for Reynolds and worked hard. Morley again was impressive .

Priory now need to convert their performances into points and next week face Kenley at home.

Saturday 4th February 2006 Reigate SALA  1  Reigate Priory  1

                                                                                 Reid 1 (pen)

If you are looking for a typical derby with passion , drama and incident this was it. The competitive nature of this derby encounter lives on. Priory eager to make amends for the earlier defeat in the season at the hands of SALA demonstrated a team spirit and an intent to succeed. The earlier exchanges were very even with Priory creating some early opportunities with Seldon and Sinnock going close. SALA themselves looked dangerous with a long ball with suporting attackers spinning off to pick up the 'flick on' ,only to be thwarted by an in form Shearman in goal. As the half progressed Priory got their football going and had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down when Seldon was brought down. Priory showed a lot of pace up front which continued to cause problems for the SALA defence. Further dissapointment occured when a goal was dissallowed as it was alleged the SALA goalkeeper had been impeded, further again when what appeared to be a good goal was ruled off side where the referee had overuled the linesman. Half Time 0-0.

In the second half Priory continued to press and were this time awarded a penalty when Reid was brought down. Reid stepped up himself to convert from the spot. Priory then allowed SALA back into the game as they appeared to drop deeper which gave SALA the opportunity to pile on the pressure. The pressure eventually was rewarded when they were awarded a hotly contested penalty. This was converted when the SALA forward deceived Shearman by smashing the ball into the middle of the goal.

Priory endevoured to get the winner and nearly achieved the win when Sinnock broke clean through , but his shot blazed over the bar. So , in the end the game finished all square.

Saturday 4th February 2006 Reigate Priory 'B'  2  Court Lodge  2

Reigate Priory "B" Team produced a dramatic late rally to rescue a point in their latest Redhill and District Division 4 league match at home to Court Lodge on Saturday afternoon. The match was played in cool, but bright conditions at Lower Kingswood.
The match began, Court Lodge seizing the advantage of kicking downhill in the first half to good effect, with some good attacking moves using both wings. This culminated with their taking the lead after 15 minutes through an unchallenged run to the edge of Priory's penalty area and first time shot. Priory tried to get back in to the match, but to no avail, to leave the half time score 1-0 to Court Lodge.
Into the second half, and Court Lodge again seized the initiative early on, resulting in a second goal after 65 minutes with a fine solo goal by one of their forwards, who held off two Priory defenders and then calmly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Bradley Martin. This at last seemed to spur Priory into life, and to show the determination that has seen their dramatic positive change in fortune this season. They began to launch a series of attacks into Court Lodge's half, resulting in a penalty awarded with 20 minutes remaining for a late tackle on midfielder Michael Ainsworth. The penalty was converted by captain Daniel Flint.
Both sides then had chances to score, with Court Lodge having the best two from corners, which were denied by diving save from goalkeeper Bradley Martin, and a superb goal line clearance by midfielder Craig Fawcett.
Into the final minute of the game and a long high through ball from Priory's defence was controlled in one touch by striker Graham Thomas, who then hit an unstoppable shot over the head of Court Lodge's goalkeeper, who had strayed outside of his goal, straight into the top left hand corner of the net for the equaliser. There was only just time for Court Lodge to kick off, before the final whistle blew. Final score 2-2.
This match served as a wake up call to Priory "B" team after a previous run of good results was ended last week, but also showed the fighting spirit in the team, having come back to draw from a two goal deficit.

RPFC Under-10's storm into Cup Final

Reigate Priory's under -10 team continued their recent run of excellent form on Saturday, with a resounding 7-0 win over AFC Banstead 'B' in their League Cup semi-final.
The match was played in bright but very cold conditions, with a biting wind, but the Priory pitch, as usual, provided an excellent playing surface. Priory took full advantage of that to play their flluent passing game. With the wind at their backs in the first half, Priory exerted pressure on the Banstead defence and it wasn't long before goals from Charlie Dockery and Jonny Partner had put them 2-0 ahead. Banstead had a couple of half-chances in the minutes thereafter but the Priory defence of Matthew Norman, Michael Stephen and Alexandro Zaccarini remained very solid. The balance of play was still very much with Priory and it was no surprise when Charlie Bramhall finished a superb solo run to add a third before half-time.
After the break, Banstead began to tire and Priory had numerous chances to extend their lead. The first goal of the second half came after an excellent passing move from one end of the pitch to the other saw Jonny Partner finish in style. Then, Felix Saro-Wiwa came on to bag a couple within the first few minutes of being on the piich and the scoring was completed when Michael Stephen thumped in a shot off the underside of the crossbar.
The team is now looking forward to the League Cup Final in March against Old Coulsdon Colts, when they hope to lift their first piece of silverware for the club.

Saturday 28th January 2006  Reigate Priory 1   Brockham  2

                                                   Reid 1

Priory struggled to build on the previous weeks good performance. Priory started really positvely as if they were going to run riot with Brockham rarely venturing into the Priory half. New signing Spencer Branton settled in well and was at the centre of some early moves. With shots firing in it took a Charles Reid cross/shot to put Priory 1-0 up within the first 20 mins. As the half progressed Priorys worked rate dropped and with over confidence drifting into their play allowed Brockham to get back into the game. Losing possesion in the Priory half allowed Brockham to break and the goal scoring opportunity that followed was converted. In the second half , playing against a bitterly cold wind ,Priory again started brightly and created some good opportunities to regain the lead. Brockham themselves threatened and worked hard in closing down Priory. With the game drifting towards a stalement an unfortunate error allowed Brockham in for their winner.

Saturday 28th January 2006  Reigate Hill Reserves 3   Reigate Priory 'B'  0

Reigate Priory "B" Team played their latest Redhill and District Division 4 league match away to Reigate Hill Reserves on Saturday afternoon.
Reigate Hill strengthened their side for this local derby by bringing in several first team players, who normally play three divisions above in Division 1 of the league.
The match was played in cool and breezy, but sunny conditions at Leigh, south of Dorking.
The match began evenly, with both sides having chances, but failing to convert them into goals. However, on 25 minutes, a through ball from the Reigate Hill defence resulted in their taking the lead. This lead to more pressure from Reigate Hill, resulting in a penalty awared for a foul inside the penalty area just 10 minutes later, which was comfortably converted.
2-0 to Reigate Hill, which remained the score until half time. Into the second half, and Reigate Hill's influx of first team players continued to play to their advantage, with a series of attacks launched on the Priory goal. Priory were also forced to make substitutions, following injuries from late tackles on wing back Paul Hodges and centre back Carl Giles.
However, Priory despite being under siege managed to hold out until 5 minutes from time, when a superb long range strike from a Reigate Hill player 40 yards out soared into the top right hand corner of Priory's goal. Priory did not give up the fight and were unlucky not to score a consolation go, when a shot across goal from captain Daniel Flint rebounded into safety off the inside of the post.
Final score 3-0 to Reigate Hill Reserves, which whilst being an obvious setback to Priory's promotion chase, was certainly not a walkover, and was not really in the end a real surprise, given the somewhat dubious nature of Reigate Hill Reserves' line up.
Team line up

B Martin, M Robinson, P Bishop, C Coomben, C Giles, P Hodges, S Porte, M Ainsworth, N Mercer, D Flint, G Thomas, J Garrett, A Allnutt

A good day at the office with all teams winning , senior and youth.

Saturday 21st January 2006  Limpsfield Blues 0  Reigate Priory  5

                                                                                    Sinnock 2 Billy 1 Marshall 1 Reid 1

The evil spirits from the previous week seemed to have been exorcised as Priory put in a tremendous performance to secure the best result for some time against high flyers Limpsfield Blues. Indeed .Priory had never before taken a single point off Limpsfield. Limpsfield playing possession football had the edge but Priory competed for everything. Marshall and Christoforu were energetic at the centre of midfield and Priorys defence of Morley , Wheeler, Wilmot and McCaughlin looked solid. Priory went 1-0 up when Tom Marshall resisted challenges to put Priory ahead. In the second half Limpsfield maintained the lions share of possession Priory always looked dangerous on the break with Sinnock and Ben Marshall up front. Sinnock put Priory further ahead when he broke free and slotted the ball under the keepers body. Limpsfield continued their efforts to break down the Priory rear guard but Shearman in goal was in great form dealing with everything he had to. Again Priory caught the Blues on the break , this time it was Billy , who came on for Ben Marshall ,who slotted past the advancing keeper. Lane came on for a tiring Christoforu to keep the midfield tight and worked hard. The fourth came through Sinnock and the fifth when Sinnock unselfishly squared the ball for Reid to complete the result. Andy Chapman came on for Neil Sinnock for final 5 mins. Neil Sinnock put in a great performance and almost sealed a hatrick , but his chip shot went narrowly wide.

This was a great result and Priory need to use this to ignite the second half of the season . If Priory can win their games in hand this will put them in touch with runners up position.

Saturday 21st January 2006  Reigate Priory 'B' 6  Abgene Eagles 0

Reigate Priory "B" Team under the leadership of player manager Stuart Porte, continue to make great progress in the 4th Division of the Redhill and District League. The squad comprises youth, experienced and veteran players, and has made an amazing transformation from finishing bottom of the league last season, to being promotion contenders this season.
The team played their latest league match at home to a very physical Abgene Eagles side on Saturday afternoon. The match was took place in cool, but sunny conditions at Lower Kingswood.
The first half progressed evenly with both teams creating chances, but unable to convert them into goals. The closest was a superb volley from outside the edge of the penalty area by Priory captain Daniel Flint, which beat the Abgene Goalkeeper, but hit the crossbar and was then cleared into safety by the Abgene Eagles defence. Half time score 0-0.
Into the second half, and Priory stepped their game up to play their best team performance of the season.
Within 15 minutes of the restart Priory were 3-0 up, with the first 2 goals scored by captain Daniel Flint. The first executed superbly by running onto a through ball from Paul Hodges, and the second by a shot from a scramble inside the penalty area. Flint, now playing with class and confidence belying his young age, created the third goal himself for stalwart defender Paul Bishop, who scored from a header from Flint's free kick curled in from the left hand side of the penalty area.
Abgene Eagles appeared stunned by the onslaught by Priory, and tried in vain to get back into the match. However, each time they were denied by Priory's determined and resolute defending.
Priory continued to launch more attacks, culminating with a free kick on the edge of the penalty area for a late tackle on right wing Neil Mercer. Daniel Flint took the kick and completed his hat trick with a superb curling shot into the top right hand side of Abgene's net. 4-0 to Priory. Again Priory continued to attack the Abgene defence resulting in two further goals by a snap shot from midfielder Michael Ainsworth and a 4th goal by captain Flint.
Final score 6-0 to Reigate Priory. This consolidates their push for promotion from the 4th Division of the Redhill & District League.

Saturday 14th January 2006  Reigate Priory  0   Brockham  2

Ghosts in the machine haunt Priorys' progress. A dissapointing outcome to the Quarter Final of the Redhill & District Senior Cup for the Priory 1st team. The teams ability to finish in front of goal continues to thwart progress in all competitions. Again Priory dominated possession and created a bagfull of opportunities throughout the game but failed to work the goalkeeper. Brockham looked dangerous on the break and Brockhams forwards were lively when they had the opportunity. With the score 0-0 at half time Priory needed to score but failed to break down the Brockham defence. Then , Brockham had their chance , following loss of possession, a cross to the far post was converted at close range. Priory tried desparately to respond and created some golden chances to get back in it. However Brockham then provided the killer blow scoring the second. Priory now need to lift themselves for next weeks game against one of the top teams Limpsfield Blues.

Saturday 14th January 2006  Westcott 35 'A'  1   Reigate Priory 'B'  3

Reigate Priory "B" Team played their first Redhill and District Division 4 league match of 2006 away to Westcott 35 A" Team on Saturday afternoon. The match was played in dull and drizzly conditions at the Priory School near Dorking.
The match began with Priory attacking from the kick off, despite the disadvantage of kicking uphill.
Their confident start was rewarded on the 10 minute mark, when a corner from the right wing taken by captain Daniel Flint was misjudged by the Westcott defence resulting in midfielder Jeremy Garrett, nipping in to tuck the ball under the goalkeeper to open the scoring for Priory.
However, Priory failed to convert any further chances over the next 20 minutes, and allowed Westcott to come into the game. Westcott, began to use their considerable man for man height advantage, together with the benefit of kicking downhill to good effect, launching a series of crosses into the Priory penalty area, culminating with a well taken equaliser from just inside the penalty area on the half hour mark.
However, despite being somewhat under the cosh, Priory suddenly retook the lead with just 5 minutes to go until half time, when a long through ball from defence was latched onto by striker Graham Thomas, who initially stumbled, but then ran clear of Westcott's goalkeeper and coolly scored from a tight angle on the right side of the penalty area. Half time score 2-1 to Priory.
Into the second half and now kicking downhill, Priory began to step up their play and dominate the game, culminating with a penalty won for a foul on Graham Thomas. The penalty was converted by striker Neil Mercer.
Priory continued to launch a series of attacks, but without success, whilst at the other end any attacks by Westcott, were dealt with confidently by Priory's defence, and in particular by young goalkeeper Bradley Martin.
This left the final score 3-1 to Reigate Priory, who continue to make strides with their squad of very young and much older experienced players.
Team line up
B Martin, M Robinson, P Bishop, C Coomben, P Hodges, S Porte, M Ainsworth, J Garrett, N Mercer, D Flint, G Thomas, B Kirsch, R Stephens, C Giles

Saturday 17th December 2005  Reigate Priory  2   Charlwood  2

                                                       Lidbury 1. Morley 1.

Reigate Priorys failing to break down the opposition in the final third again restricted what should have been a comfortable 3 points. Priory went a goal behind when the Charlwood stricker competed in the box and when the ball fell kindly converted from close range. Priory again played the ball around with confidence but struggled to create clear cut chances. Wheeler had a number of long range efforts that went close. Finally Priory got the breakthrough when Lidbury finished well following a defensive mix up in the Charlwood defence. Shortly after half time Charlwood regained their lead when a fierce shot beat Lawrence. Priory upped the tempo and started to provide more support to attackers Morley and Flora. With 15 mins remaining priory went 3 - 4 - 3 pushing Reid up front. Finally Priory got their equaliser when Wheelers shot rebounded off the bar and Morley was on hand to head home.

Saturday 10th December 2005  Reigate Priory  0   Clarkson Hyde  3

Clarkson Hyde must had thought Christmas had come early as Priory gifted the League Champions with two early goals. The first came when Priory failed to set themselves for a corner and Clarkson Hyde took advantange with a headed goal at the far post. The second came from indecision and an atempted clearance which rebounded into the goal. All through this period Priory played good possession football and had their own opportunities. On two occassions Billy escaped his markers but was unable to convert. Clarkson scored their third with a well taken strike that beat Lawrence in goal.  On the positive side Priory continued to impress , especially in the second half , continuing to play the ball around well. Wheeler and Morley in defence commenced most of the play linking well with the full backs Wilmott and Jowet. Seldon , back from injury, took a further knock , and the club captain now looks doubtfull for rest of season. Whilst the result is dissapointing , the team continue to play positive football and with numerous young players breaking through into the team , and as they gain experiance , the results will start to come on  regular basis.

Saturday 26th November 2005  Kenley  2   Reigate Priory  3

                                                                           Billy 2 , Flora 1

Reigate Priory striker Patrick Billy came on in the second half and produce some devasting finishing to secure 3 valuable points. Priory got off to a bad start conceding a goal in what must have been no more than 15 seconds. Priory responded positively and started to control the game with some fine possession football. Finally Priory got their deserved equallizer when Flora converted at the near post. With the expectation of moving on from this Priory were caught in possession and Kenley again went in front to make it 2- 1 at half time. Priory started the second half pushing for the equaliser and following some superb football cumalating in some one touch football ending with a ferocious shot from Billy into the roof of the net, Priory were back in it. Priory continued to push for the winner but Kenley were equally creating opportunities which brought some fine saves from Lawrence in goal. However , Priory secured their victory when Morleys perfectly weighted cross found Billy at the far post, and his header sneaked in off the post.

Saturday 19th November 2005  Smallfield  3   Reigate Priory  1

                                                                               Reid 1

With injuries mounting Reigate Priory went to Smallfield with a youthfull squad. With wholesale changes from the last outing Priory struggled to settle , and playing in an unfamilure 3-5-2 set up were exposed in the early exchanges and went 1 - 0 down after 15mins. Playing with uncertainty Priory went further behind before half time. With the benefit of half time discussions Priory commenced the second half with a mission and started to play some of their best football of the season. Shearman and Morley were the catalyst in midfield and Reid and Flora started to give the Smallfield defence something to think about.  Within 10 mins of the restart Reid was put through by Shearman and slotted the ball home to make it 2 -1. With 30 mins still remaining  Priory continued to dominate with many chances to get the equalizer. But Priory just could not get the breakthrough and with seconds remaining Smallfield sealed their victory.

The derby of all derbys - A very evenly contested affair with both teams having opportunities. Whilst Priory had most of the possesion Sala looked dangerous on the breaks with a highly talented forward line. So it was to prove when the Sala front man read the through ball onto his chest and chipped Lawrence in goal to give Sala the lead. In the second half Priory came out full of charge but conceded early to another well taken goal. Priory continued to push for something out of the game but could make no progress.

Saturday 29th November 2005  Reigate Priory  3  Woodland Albon   0

                                                                                          Shearman1 , Billy1 , Lidbury1

This result for Priory turned out to be more tricky than the score suggests. Priory started well and early chances fell to Flora and Billy but they were unable to convert. Woodland Albion were bright in attack and, if it was not for some fine saves from Lawrence in goal , could have taken the lead. However , Priory got the break when Shearmans' left footed shot found the corner of the net to give them a 1-0 lead at half time. Priory started the second period well and continued to create most of the chances. With 15 mins remaining a spectacular flying header from Billy off Shearmans cross made it 2 - 0. Billy then became provider for Lidbury who scored from close range to make it 3 - 0. Another clean sheet for Priory where the team is beginning to gel following numerous changes from last season.

Saturday 22nd October 2005  Bookham  0   Reigate Priory  2

                                                                          Marshall 1 , Flora 1

Following last weeks disappointing early exit from the Surrey Cup , Priory were eager to make amends

Against newly promoted Division One Champions Bookham. It was always going to be a competitive affair against an experienced Bookham side. Bookham applied most of the early pressure making the most of their sloping pitch with fast breaking moves to their front men. Priory were dogged and stubborn in their defending and gave no quarter. Whilst Bookham had their chances it was Priory that took the lead when Tom Marshall pounced in the box and hit an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. In the second half Priory started in command when the lively Charnpal Flora struck from the edge the box to make it 2 - 0 , and but from a superb save from the Bookham keeper , prevented the lead being extended. Whilst towards the end of the game Bookham pushed players forward , Priory held out for all 3 points. This was an excellent team performance from a Priory team making amends for the previous weeks disappointment.

Saturday 15th October 2005  Reigate Priory 0   Woking Phoenix  1

Following 3 straight wins Priory were full of confidence and expectation as they started the match against Phoenix from the Guildford and Sheer Premier League. Certainly after the first 15 mins it looked a formality when Priory created numerous opportunities to take an early lead. However , Phoenix started to get the measure of the Priory's game and through putting quick pressure on the Priory players, opportunities started to dry up and the Priory players became frustrated. Phoenix were themselves dangerous with early long balls being supported speedily from their midfield and had opportunities to take the lead. It was immediately after the restart where Phoenix scored what proved to be the winner. Sleepy defending gave the Phoenix striker the opportunity to tuck the ball away. Whilst Priory huffed and puffed they could not blow the Phoenix house down and subsequently take an early exit from the Surrey Cup.

Saturday 15th October 2005  Merstham Newton A 1   Reigate Priory A 4

Priory A made it 3 league wins in a row with a deserved win at the then table topping merstham newton A.  Priory started much the better team and deserved to go infront early on when Dan Udall got on the end of a Neil Sinnick corner.  Priory then increased the lead through Ben Marshall latching on to a through ball to beat the keeper from the edge of the box.  Merstham started to get into the game after that and pulled a goal back soon after after a mix up in the Priory defence.  Priory then extended the lead right on half time with Neil Sinnick scoring direct from a corner.  H/T 3-1.  The second half was very even with Marc Connolly making a few fine saves but eventually Priory made the game safe mid way through the half when sub Chris Byrne scored from the edge of the area after a good run and shot crept inside the keepers near post. F/T 4-1

Connolly, Brend, Udall, M Jones (S Jones), Norris, Williams, Lomath, Walter, Anderson, Sinnick, Marshall (Byrne)

Saturday 15th October 2005  Reigate Priory B  1   Real Holmesdale  5

Reigate Priory "B" Team played their 4th league fixture of the season at home to Real Holmesdale Reserves on Saturday afternoon. Priory went into the match without one of their regular central defenders Chris Comben and strikers Daniel Flint, both out through injury. After an even first 15 minutes, Real Holmesdale, with a young attack minded side, stunned Priory with three goals in the space of 15 minutes. The game reverted to normality for the remainder of the first half, with both sides having chances to score. Just 5 minutes into the second half, and Priory were dealt a further blow when a handball by one of their defenders resulted in a rather harsh straight sending off, plus a penalty to Real Holmesdale, who scored from the spot kick to make the score 4-0. Down to 10 men and Priory began surprisingly to play better than when they had 11 players on the pitch, resulting in a goal from top scorer Michael Ainsworth with a cross shot from the edge of the penaly area. However, Real Holmesdale continued to press, and despite valiant defending by Priory, particularly by young goalkeeper Bradely Martin, they were unable to prevent the opposition adding one further goal to make the final score 5-1 to Real Holmesdale. This match certainly proved to be a wake up call for Priory, against a well organised side. However, Priory still remain in 2nd place in their division.

Saturday 8th October 2005  Reigate Priory 2   Smallfield  0

                                                                              White 2

Priory continued their recent form with a solid performance against Smallfield. White , replacing the abcent Moss used all his experience and linked up well with Reid. The two combined well when Reid broke clear and unselfishly squared the ball for White to convert. Priory continued to create the openings and with a swivel White struck a forceful low shot to put Priory 2 - 0 ahead at half time. Priory worked hard throughout and competed well .Chapman maintain strict order in defence with Morley again putting in a significant performance. Many chances were created in the second half but Priory could not add to their tally.

Saturday 1st October 2005  Caterham OB 'A' 1  Reigate Priory 'B' 1  Surrey County Cup

                                                (Caterham won 4-2 on penalties)

Reigate Priory played in the Redhill & District League Junior Cup away to Caterham Old Boys "A" Team on Saturday. Priory went into the match without one of their regular central defenders, and were dealt another blow just 10 minutes into the game, when Chris Coomben fell awkwardly and sustained a pulled thigh muscle, resulting in having to be substituted immediately. Initially, Priory coped well with the forced re-formation and took the lead mid way through the first half.  This arose from an attacking move on the the left hand side of Caterham's defence,  when Daniel Flint played a through ball to Michael Ainsworth, who turned sharply, drew the goalkeeper out of position and slotted the ball into the back of the net.
Towards the end of the first half, Priory began to look stretched at the back, culminating in a Caterham attack that ended with the ball rebounding off the crossbar.  Half time ended up 1-0 to Priory.
Into the second half, and the match remained evenly poised, with chances at both ends.  Then, with just 15 minuteds remaining, a through ball into the Priory defence was won by a Caterham striker who shot neatly under Priory's goalkeeper.  1-1, and this was how the match ended in normal time.
Into extra time and the match remained even, with Priory having the best chance to win the match when a cross shot from the right wing ended up hitting Caterham's post.
Final score after extra time 1-1. This meant penalties, and unfortunately Priory lost this 4-2.

Thus after a battling performance, Priory go out of the Junior Cup, and must now concentrate on continuing their fine start to the League Season.

Reigate Priory Reserves continued with their 100% start with a win in the local derby at Reigate Hill. In a very even game on a difficult service Priory had to battle hard for their victory. Patrick Billy opened the scoring from close range when Burton rising at the far post headed back across the goal for Billy to convert. Billy struct again with a superb low strike to put Priory in a confortable lead at half time. The game followed a similar format in the second half and Reigate Hill made a game off it when they pulled one back. However,

Priory held out for all 3 points.

Saturday 24th September 2005  Reigate Priory 'A'  3  Limpsfield Blues Reserves 2

Reigate Priory won their 1st game of the season last saturday after a hard fought victory over Limpsfield Blues Res. In a exciting game with plenty of chances, Limpsfield dominated the opening 15 mins and went ahead after a scramble in the Priory box after a good initial save by Lawrence Clarke.  Priory hit back and scored a deserved equaliser when Chris Byrne chipped the blues keeper from 15 yards.  Limpsfield took the lead again as Priory went to sleep at a short corner and the cross was met by a blues defender.  Ben Marshall worked hard up front, wasting a few good chances but found the Priory equaliser beating the keeper with a low shot from 18 yards after good play from Chris Dalton. Half time 2 - 2.
The second half was again end to end but Priory managed to grab the winner when Demos scored with a dipping 20 yard strike mid way through the half.  Priory defended well and managed to hang on for a deserved win.

Saturday 17th September 2005  West Wickham III (1) 1 Reigate Priory (0) 3

                                                                                             Morley1, Reid2

With the intentions of improving defensive play Priory still struggled to put in the defensive workrate required and found themselves a goal down at half time despite playing some good passing football. However a much improved defensive workrate in the second half saw Priory dominate and more chances being created. Priory equalised following Averys' cross when Morley rose at the far post to head into the roof of the net. Priory secured victory through the effervecent Reid scoring twice. Priory will need to take the improving play into next weeks Surrey Cup against Bisley Sports.

Saturday 17th September 2005  Park Lane Reserves  0  Reigate Priory 'B' 2

Reigate Priory 'B' Team continued in their superb start to the season in the 2nd league match away to Park Lane Reserves.  Following a 1-1 draw again the same team in a friendly match a few weeks previous, this time Priory approached the match with more determination and an almost unchanged side from their season opener against Court Lodge.  This time Priory played to their strengths, in particular their young striker Daniel Flint and attacking midfielder Michael Ainsworth.

After dominating play for much of the first half without scoring, Priory at last took the lead with 10 minutes remaining of the first half, when Daniel Flint chased through a long ball from defence and hit an unstoppable shot from the edge of the penalty area past Park Lane's goalkeeper.

In the second half, Priory again dominated, without being under too much pressure, and at last increased their lead midway through the second half, when Michael Ainsworth latched onto a loose ball in the penalty area, turned sharply and shot straight into the top right hand corner of the net.
From then on, both sides had chances to score, with Priory's young goalkeeper making a superb save to keep out a late attack by Park Lane.  2-0 was the final result and Priory 'B' Team now look forward with confidence to their Junior Cup match away to Caterham Old Boys 'A' Team in two weeks time.

                                                                                        Jowett1, Shears1, Reid1

Final 10 minute meltdown destroys Priorys aspirations in classic opener

Priory got off to a good start away to Horley Town when Jowett burst through to put Priory one up. In a very spirited encounter Horley Town were never going to to let Priory settle into their prefered footballing formatt and equalised when Priory failed to clear. Within a few minutes again Priory struggled to deal with the first challenge and accordingly Horley took their chance. Priory were able to draw level at half time with a superb opportunist strike from Shears. Priory generally just edged possession in the second half and were awared a penalty with 10 minutes remaining and Reid struck high into the roof of the net to put Priory ahead. However within minutes Horley were allowed the opportunity to equalised and then with Priory pressing for the winner , left themselves exposed to conceed a fourth.

Reigate Priory B Team commenced their league campaign in the 4th Division of the Redhill & District Football League, under the capable management of Stuart Porte, assisted by Chris Coomben.
This followed a series of pre-season friendly matches, which finished with 3 draws and won loss.
This season the 'B' Team has a squad made up of both young, experienced and older players.
Team spirit in the build up matches on and off the pitch has been excellent, and so it was with an air of confidence and expectation that the team took to the field in their away match against Court Lodge.
The game turned out to be a dominant display by the Priory resulting in a 5-0 victory.
Scorers for Reigate were Rob F rogley 2, Michael Ainsworth, Barry Nash and Daniel Flint.

Saturday 3rd September 2005  Old Salseains III 1  Reigate Priory 4

Following last weeks lack lustre performance Priory were able to secure a fixture with Old Salseains from the Southern Amateur League. Priory started with a more workmanlike mood and bossed the early exchanges and deservedly went in front when Reid struck a fierce shot into the roof of the net. Priory then struggled in the final 20 mins of the half as the hot weather seemed to drain their energy. Old Salseains equalised to put the score level at half time. Changing the formation to secure the midfield Priory regained control and Reid struct again to put Priory in front. Further goals from Lidbury anf Flora secured a fine victory and performance setting up nicely the first league fixture next week against Horley Town.

Saturday 27th August 2005  Reigate Priory 1  Frenches Ath 2

Following the previous weeks good performance against Westerham, Priory put in a dissapointing first half performance against a spirited Frenches team. Priory found themselves 2 - 0 down within 20 minutes and lacked desire and enthusiasm. The second half produced a better performance and eventually Priory pulled a goal back through Norman who dived bravely and converted from a corner. Whilst further chances were created Priory never really did enough to get anything out of the game. With 3 weeks to the season opener , this performance has to go into the archives.

Saturday 20th August 2005  Reigate Priory 4  Westerham Reserves 4

Playing the strongest opposition of the preseason programme Priory were up against Kent County League opposition reserve section. The first 20 mins showed the difference in levels as Priory struggled to get into the game. However , Priory always looked dangerous on the break and went one up against the run of play when Lomath took his opportunity with precision. This gave Priory belief and confidence and the game became more even. Westerham equalised, then Priory scored two goals in quick succession through Seldon and Moss. The second half saw Westerham increase the pressure which paid off through 3 goals giving Westerham a 4 - 3 lead with 5 mins remaining. Priory achieved a deserved equaliser with minutes remaining through another strike from Lomath and could have seized victory with the last kick when Lidbury struck just over the bar .

Saturday 13th August 2005  South Godstone 0 Reigate Priory 2

Priory learnt the lessons of the previous week and put in a very solid team performance against a strong South Godstone team. The first half was very even with Priory defensively well organised throughout. Switching to a 3-5-2 at the start of the second period Priory enjoyed more possesion and started to create more chances. Joe Lane put Priory in front when he picked his spot perfectly. Opportunities continued as Priory grew in confidence. Priory went two head when Charles Reid converted from close range. Overall a good performance and team effort which sets Priory up for the next fixture against Westerham Reserves.
