ECHOES OF THE PAST MR WP DANIELS MBE Born 14th August 1881 , died 25th March 1984 AFA Surrey Senior Cup Winner 1908/09 Southern Amateur League Section B Winner 1908/09 Click to enlarge Click to enlarge I guess History is one of those topics that becomes more important to you the older you get and I certainly fall in to that category. So it was with great delight when through our website that I was contacted by the grandson of a Mr William Percival Daniels who played for Reigate Priory FC over 100 years ago and was the proud owner of his AFA Surrey Senior Cup Winners Medal and a Southern Amateur League Winners Section B medal in 1908. This was the year when the Southern Amateur League was founded. Mr Daniels grandson goes on to say ''My grandfather’s name was William Percival Daniels (with one ‘l’) and he played for the Civil Service before Reigate Priory. I can remember him telling the story about how someone from his Civil Service team pulled the communication cord on the Prague to Vienna Express in 1901 or 02 when they played against international teams in what then would have been the Austro-Hungarian Empire.'' Mr Daniels was also awarded a MBE.
