Saturday 14th March 2009- Redhill & District Division 5

Real Holmesdale Reserves   7   Reigate Priory B  0

Priory went into this week's game on the back of a good battling performance last week which ended in a narrow defeat at the hands of Merstham.  Man of the match Will Blake was excellent with his best game of the season by far and all the other players responded to this by putting in maximum effort as well.
This meant we went into this Saturday's game with real optimism.  All of this was then undone in an absolutely abysmal first 45 minutes where not only did the 11 players looked like they had never played together before but probably had not even met one another!  The result of this was 7-0 at half time.  A fair few harsh words and a tactical change at half time by Chris Comben the manager resulted in the team of the last few weeks returning to the game and achieving an exceptionally hard fought 0-0 draw in the second half against probably one of the best teams in the Division.  Priorys man of the match was Mark Connolly who, though the score does not show it, put in a really good shift in defence and maybe the score would have been a lot worse at full time without him.
Well done all for the response in the second half but the lesson to be learnt here is that the game is over 90 minutes and not 45.  Priory need to turn up for the first half next week.

Real Holmesdale  3  Reigate Priory B  0

Today was one of those Saturdays you get from time to time during the season when you are playing away to the team clear at the top of the league and you only have twelve players available for selection.  This number including one young player coming back from a long term injury and one young at heart player making his twentieth comeback from retirement.
With commitment and attitude the order of the day Priory more than lived up to that expectation in a really close fought first half battle with the two teams separated only by two slight mistakes which both resulted in goals.  At half time Priory players were still upbeat and more than ready to give it a right go in the second half, creating a couple of early half chances mid way through the half.  The game changed in a 3 minute spell when we were awarded a penalty which Chris Comden placed neatly well over the bar and into the trees.  Chris then had a chance to make amends with a lobbed shot from 30 yards which he dispatched with aplomb before realising it was in his own net.
With the odds stacked against us this was a great team effort with 12 Priory players taking the man of the match award.  Great attitude team.

Saturday 21st February 2009- Redhill & District Division 5

Reigate Priory 0 Caterham Old Boys 1

Priory came into this fixture having shown significant improvement in recent games and although the result did not go our way the commitment and desire was first rate.  In a first half of few chances it was Caterham who made the breakthrough scoring on 25 minutes when a cross that was headed clear fell to their player on the edge of the box and the ball was drilled home.  At half time Chris asked for a bit more from the team and they responded well with probably the best chances to get at least a point falling to our two youngest but brightest players Reg and Reece but it was not to be our day although everyone put in a sterling effort.  A special mention must go to the man of the match, our keeper Ben.  Also to Mark Connelley and Reece who in a tight game all did that little bit extra.
