Saturday 23rd February 2008: Redhill & District Division 3 HOLLAND SPORTS RESERVES (1) 2 REIGATE PRIORY 'A' (1) 2 Keeling2 Priory 'A' put in an improved performance away to Holland Sports Reserves. Priory took an early lead as Keelings volley was well converted by the striker. Holland Sports responded putting pressure on the Priory goal with Comben in the Priory goal being kept busy. The pressure paid off as Sports equalised. Sports started the brighter in the second half and took the lead. Priory rallied and started to control the game and Keeling , in the final minute of the game was able to strike the equaliser from an acute angle. Team:Comben,Martin,Phillipson,Monk,Telford,Markwick,Keeling,Williams,Wheeler,Jones,Cook,Besley,Woolstone. Saturday 16th February 2008: Redhill & District Division 3 REIGATE PRIORY 'A' (0) 0 CHARLWOOD RESERVES (2) 4 Priory 'A' started this game positvely against Charlwood Reserves at Park Lane on saturday. Playing a much more experienced outfit the 'As were containing Charlwoods strike threat and had a number of opportunities themselves which included a thunderbolt from Pete Stone. However Charlwood broke the deadlock with a fine header from a corner as Priory failed to challenge. Then minutes before half time Charlwood made it two as their striker beat two players to hit a low fierce shot past Connolly in the Priory goal. In previous games Priorys 2nd half performances showed improvement , but on this occassion it was'nt to be. Priory created a few chances but the final strikes on goal missed the target. Charlwood remained lively and accordingly extended their lead as their pacey winger whipped in a cross for their striker to convert through a glancing header. Priorys heads went down and work rate faltered and more space was available for Priory to be exploited. Charlwood scored their fourth as their striker beat Connolly to the ball and subsequenly slid the ball home. Priory need to pick themselves now and regroup for the next game away to Holland Sports Reserves. Team:Connolly,Martin,Phillipson,Udall,Peters,Monk,Telford,Stone,Markwick,Keeling,Williams,Wheeler,Jones. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 2nd February 2008: Redhill & District Division 3 REIGATE PRIORY 'A' (0) 2 MERSTHAM 'A' (5) 5 Monk1,Udall1 With the change in formation designed to limit the conceding of goals , head in hands the DOF had to admit defeat by half time as these changes failed to impact. Merstham 'A' with a young lively side outplayed Priory in the first half and raced away to a 5-0 lead with Priory conceding 2 penalties. In the second half Priory returned to a more traditional formation and were targeted to get some pride out of the game and basically win the second half. With increased intent Priory got closer to their oponnents with view of reducing their share of the possession. Priory started to put pressure on the Merstham defence. Lane went close when his free kick rattled off the bar and then Udall rose at the far post from Lane's corner to head home Priorys first. Phillipson also blitzed through only to see his fantastic strike just miss the goal. Priory continued to push forward and were rewarded with their second with a fine individual run by Monk. Monk picking the ball up in midfield and ghosting past numerous players finishing with a thunderous left foot strike. Merstham also had numerous chances to extend their lead but Priory were able to conclude a 2nd half shut out with some last ditch defending from Martin , Phillipson, Udall and Jones and Connolly in the Priory goal.. Team:Connolly,Peters,Phillipson,Udall,Jones,Lane,Telford,Hodges,Monk,Williams,Comben,Martin. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 5th January 2008: Redhill & District Division 3 REIGATE PRIORY 'A' (0) 2 HOLLAND SPORTS RESERVES (2) 3 Telford1,WilliamsD1 The 'A' Teams new year started slowly when Priory found themselves 2-0 down within 20 minutes. Holland Sports Reserves started the stronger and were putting Priory under pressure in all quarters. Sports took the lead when Priory failed to deal with an inswinging free kick which passed everybody and finished up in the net. Sports second came as Priory lost possession deep in their own half and paid the price. With the game looking as if it was going to be an easy day out for the visitors Priory started to compete and get themselves back into the game. With a 2-0 deficit to overcome in the second half Priory pulled a goal back when Telfords left foot strick from outside the box beat their keeper. Priory were now becoming more of a threat , but their hopes of recovery were thwarted following a further mistake with allowed the Sports striker to score comfortably. Priory then went down to 10 men when Randall was sent off following an incident. However , Priory kept going and were rewarded with their second goal with a great left foot volley from Williams. 10 Men Priory continued to push for the equaliser but Holland Sports held out for the win. Team;Brend,Martin,Wheeler,Peters,Jones,Telford,Branton,Monk,Stone,Randall,WilliamsD,Udall,ConnollyR. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 1st December 2007: Redhill & District Division 3 REIGATE PRIORY 'A' (3) 4 WARLINGHAM 'B' (1) 3 Hamilton3,WilliamsD1 Priory 'A' approached this game with youth in mind bringing up some of the youngsters that had recently so positively performed with the Bees , and it paid off. Priory concerntated on getting a pasing game going together with some set plays on attacking corners and organisation in defensive corners. The young pairing on Telford and Monk in centre midfield was particularly effective and the flank midfield of Hamilton and Williams were constant threats with their pace and trickery. Keeling up front worked hard in holding the ball with Lane in the slot getting more involved. Priory took the lead from a corner as the ball fell to Hamilton to score. Warlingham drew level when their pacey striker broke free and whose shot beat Brend in the Priory goal. With minutes remaining in the first half , Hamilton broke into the box and shot made it 2-1. Minutes later , Williams persistent run into the box gave him the opportunity to strike Priorys third. Into the second half and against a strong wind, Priory concerntrated on playing the game to feet and this paid dividends and further chances fell to extend their lead. Hamilton achieved Priorys fourth and his hattrick with another good finish. Warlingham then started push with balls into the box and were able to pull a goal back as the Priory defence failed to clear. Warlingham narrowed the deficit further to make it 4-3 but Priory held out for all three points. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 20th October 2007: Redhill & District Intermediate Cup CHEAM VILLAGE WARRIORS (0) 4 REIGATE PRIORY 'A' (0) 2 Hadley1,Giles1 Priory A made the visit to Raynes Park to play Cheam Village Warriors in the Redhill and District Intermediate Cup who are themselves a division higher than Priory. The game started well for Priory and could have taken the lead after 5 minutes when Steve Young was played clean through by Branton, Young raced onto the pass and cut inside past the Cheam Defender then fired a shot hard and low to the Keepers left but unfortunately for Priory the Keeper was equal to the shot to keep the score goaless, this seemed to spark Cheam into life, there football from here on in was at a high standard, keeping the ball extremely well waiting to pick off Priory’s defence, Priory at this point were at full stretch to keep themselves in the game, young Rob Randall who was at Right Back had to clear off the line with a header and Keeper Colin Brend who was Priory’s Star Man was in inspired form making four exceptional saves, things though got worse on the half hour mark for Priory with them losing Tim Seldon due to a twisted knee, he was duly replaced by Carl Giles who went up front to partner Dave Williams leaving big Mark Hadley to take the Skippers place in midfield, Priory managed to keep the score 0-0 at the interval and buoyed by there battling first half performance led them to start the second half on the front foot, the partnership of Giles and Williams started to unnerve the Cheam defence leading them to struggle with 24 year old Giles’ height and strength, Priory were gaining more and more confidence and on the hour mark Williams found himself one on one with the Cheam keeper after a superb ball from Chris Randall, Williams though could only manage to hit the keepers legs, but for all of Priory’s work they were to be undone by a long piercing ball played in between the Centre Half pairing of Lomath and Udall, the striker was hot on the heels of Udall giving the big man no option other than to get something on it but sadly could only steer it past keeper Brend, this was harsh luck on Priory and were to find themselves another goal down five minutes later. Priory though were undeterred and fought back to show how much heart and steel there is in this side, Clarke won a Free kick just inside the Cheam half and delivered a superb ball for Giles to get a touch down to Mark Hadley who then slammed the ball home, Priory were determined not to go down without a fight and got there rewards with 4 minutes to go when Giles caused an error from the Centre Half, Giles picked the ball up from 25 yards out and placed a superb left foot shot past the keeper which bounced off the post and into the goal to level the game, now with just under four minutes to go Priory were heading for Extra Time but Cheam’s left winger had different ideas, he picked the ball up on the edge of Priory’s box he then beat defender Billy Kirsch and placed an unstoppable drive into the bottom right hand corner, Priory then again tried to salvage the game again throwing everything forward for the last two minutes but there was to be no comeback this time and were hit on the break for a fourth goal, it was Heartbreak for Priory but they can be proud of there resilience and passion to keep going when defeat was on the cards. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Saturday 6th October 2007: Redhill & District Division 3 WARLINGHAM 'B' (0) 2 REIGATE PRIORY 'A' (2) 3 RandallC1,Branton2 After last week’s disappointing result to Wallington Priory traveled to table toppers Warlingham B, after arriving at Church Lane Priory were met with a superb playing surface that was worthy of any football side in the country. As the game started it was clear that the quality of the pitch would be to Priory’s advantage as it suited Priory’s passing game, Priory proceeded to take the game straight to the home side, the back four of Philipson, Lawrence, Udall and Clarke were in no mood for finishing second and were first to every tackle and header. On the 15th minute, Priory created there first chance after some good work from Clarke and the fit again Rob Randall, Clarke won the ball deep in his own half and played an excellent pass to Rob Randall who beat the left back with ease, a ball was then played into Branton who played a perfectly weighted pass through the Warlingham defence for Lane, unfortunately the 24 year old missed the target, putting his shot wide of the post. Priory continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded when Lane again picked up the ball from the edge of the box, he beat two defenders his shot was though saved by the Warlingham keeper but the keeper could only parry his shot to the oncoming Chris Randall who stroked the ball home with ease, the goal clearly deflated Warlingham and were to find themselves in more trouble 10 minutes later after Chris Randall played a superb ball into the inform striker Dave Williams who brought the ball down superbly in the box and played in player manager Spencer Branton to stroke home to put the visitors 2-0 up, the half time whistle arrived shortly after with Priory’s tails well and truly up. The second half started much in the same vain as the first with Priory continuing to dominate, 10 minutes in to the half, Priory won a throwin deep in the Warlingham half, Lawrence then put in a deep throw which caused chaos in the Warlingham defence, the Goalkeeper failed to connect properly with an attempted punch, Branton again though was on hand to capitalize on the error to put Priory 3-0 up, Priory though from here as in recent weeks took there foot off the pedal and began to defend very deeply inviting the Warlingham strike force on and they were to be punished for this when the Warlingham striker placed a stinging shot past the despairing hand of keeper Brend, Priory started to panic and lost the fluency of there football, Priory were to find themselves in deeper trouble 5 minutes later when the Warlingham striker burst past the Priory defence, there was a big cry for offside and although the linesman flagged for offside the Referee allowed the game to continue and the Warlingham striker made no mistake in slotting past keeper Brend, it was harsh luck on keeper Brend to concede two goals after such a great display but Priory had to dig deep to keep the result and Midfield Dynamo Tim Seldon was determined to make sure this happened, the captain was the sides strength in the last twenty minutes and proceeded to lead his men home for three valuable points, Priory now host RH123 Athletic Reserves next Saturday and will be looking to gain some consistency with a further three points, next week’s visitors have had a similar start to Priory so should make way for a very entertaining fixture Team: Brend, Philipson, Udall, Lawrence, Clarke, C Randall, Seldon, Branton, R Randall, Lane, D Williams, S Jones, Eckford – Soper, ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 29th September 2007: Redhill & District Division 3 REIGATE PRIORY 'A' (0) 0 WALLINGTON NEW FORESTERS (3) 3 In a reverse fixture of the previous week Priory were slow in the uptake and put in an uninspiring first half performance. On a small pitch Priory were closed down quickly and provided little threat reverting to too much of a long ball game which played into the hands of the tall Wallington defence. Wallington were sharp in their play and moved the ball speedily and provided many openings , especially from their left flank. Accordingly Wallington moved into a 3-0 lead by half time leaving Priory dejected with heads down. With some home truths communicated at half time Priory came out in the second half with more purpose and started to compete. With early substitutions being made Priory committed to try and get something out of this game. Unfortunately , Alex Monk had to come off , due to dizzyness, and with Priory have committed all subs were left to play the remainder of the game with 10 men. However , Priory continued to make a game of it , but could get the goals needed. Team: Toms,Helio,Udall,Lawrence,Jones,Randall,Seldon,Branton,Monk,Hadley,WilliamsD,Lomath,Phillipson,Lane. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 22nd September 2007: Redhill & District Division 3 WALLINGTON NEW FORESTERS (1) 3 REIGATE PRIORY 'A' (3) 5 WilliamsD2,Seldon1,Lawrence1,Stone1 Priorys 'A' Team got their first points on the board with an eventfull away win against newly promoted Wallington New Foresters. Within minutes of the start Lawrences long range freekick was too hot to handle, Williams made it two shortly afterwards and Priory were in the driving seat. However , Wallington pulled a goal back with a superb long range strike sailed into the roof of the net. Priory could be forgiven for thinking is this a repeat of the previous week. Priorys nerves were calmed just before half time when Stone pounced on a loose ball in the box and struck his shot firmly to give Priory a 3-1 advantage at half time. Priory were looking good going forward with many attacking options but still appear to be suffering from a defensive virus and allow their opponnents too much time and space on the ball and sometimes guilty of not attacking the ball. So it was that Wallington pulled another goal back just after half time and started to press for the equaliser. Priory responded again with a great piece of shill from Seldon who ghosted past three players and hit his shot on the run into the top corner , 4-2. With substitutions now being made with WilliamsJ and Donald coming on Priory were looking to close out the game. However , Wallington again made the game tight pulling a goal back to 4-3. With Theo Spencer coming on , his run down the right side and superb cross ball into the box allowed Williams D to finish easily thus restoring Priorys 2 goal advantage. Priory finishing 5-3 victors on the day. Team: Toms,Helio,Udall,Lawrence,Jones,RandallC,Seldon,Branton,Stone,Lane,WilliamsD,Spencer,Donald,WilliamsJ. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 15th September 2007: Redhill & District Division 3 REIGATE PRIORY 'A' (2) 2 WESTCOTT 35 (1)3 Lane1,Keeling1 Priorys 'A' Team starting this game in a confident manor and took an early lead as Matt Keeling placed his shot into the bottom corner. Playing some good football Priory extended their lead as Joe Lane hit a good shot off the post. At this point Priory looked good and should have made it three , but Keelings shot went wide. Westcott 35 were an experienced side and had some pace up front but Clarke was playing well in the Priory defence kept a lid on their opportunities. However , Westcott pulled a goal back just before half time as the Westcott striker headed home from a corner unchallenged. Priory started the second half and lost Clarke through and injury and Seldon also sustained a knock and had to come off. Priory had to rearrange their formatt and lost their momenum and control on the game. Westcott scored 2 further goals leaving Priory to chase the game. Further chances came to Priory but were unable to convert. A game that started so positively ended with a loss. Priory now need to bounce back with their forthcoming away fixture to Wallington New Foresters. Team:Brend,Helio,Udall,Clarke,Jones,RandallC,Seldon,Branton,Spencer,Keeling,Lane,Lawrence,Stone,AveryS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Saturday 8th September 2007: Friendly PARK LANE (2) 4 REIGATE PRIORY 'A' (0) 2 Lane1,Spencer1 Following 3 wins back to back Priory 'A' learnt some valuable lessons as they came up against a good experienced Park Lane side. Priorys starting formation of 3-5-2 was clearly exposed in the early encounters as Park Lane attacked Priorys defence at will and went into an early lead. Park Lane continued to boss the first half as defensively Priory failed in the basic principles and accordingly ound themselves 2-0 down at half time. Half time gave Priory the opportunity to regroup and started the second half in a much more unified approach. With Priory now back in the game they were able to pull a goal back when young Theo Spencer hit a long range shot which the keeper was unable to deal with. Priory continued to push for the equaliser which came as Joe Lanes free kick went over the keeper into the top corner. With increased confidence Priory were looking good to continue on to take the game and almost made it three when Park Lanes defender almost diverted the ball into his own goal , but the ball hit the post. With 10 mins remaining Park Lane regained control of the game with a 3rd and 4th goal. Lesson to be learnt ? - 100% focus and concerntration at all times and less of the required counselling sessions. It pays to talk!
