Sunday 19th August saw the third charity match in four years organised by Michael Hulf of Michael Hulf Photography, raising money for Parkinson’s UK and the Mark Lay Foundation. Michael Hulf XI entertained Reigate Priory Vets at Dorking Wanderers FC’s new £8m Meadowbank facility. Dave Mizon put Priory ahead after a quarter of an hour with a low strike from a narrow angle and their lead should have been doubled when Man of the Match Stuart Jones headed against the post from close range. Priory created several chances, including a Craig Wheeler chip that hit the bar, before Dale Wyatt finally doubled the Reigate side’s lead with a well-placed shot from just inside the box. Priory changed all ten outfield players at half-time and were under pressure for most of the second half. Mark Halsey saved well from Fil Soares and Liam Cox midway through the second half and the Hulf XI failed to capitalise on several opportunities, whilst all Priory could muster was a wild blaze over the bar from Nathan Phillips. Priory held on to their two goal lead until the 89th minute when George Hyde’s curling shot from just outside the box nestled just inside the post to set up a frantic finale. The Reigate side managed to hold on for a 2-1 victory and all enjoyed most post-match pizza courtesy of Michael Hulf XI shirt sponsors; Domino’s.
