Reigate Priory 3 – 2 Broadbridge Heath Reserves (4th August 2018)

Reigate Priory entertained a young Broadbridge Heath reserve side on a hot and sunny afternoon at Netherne and made an encouraging comeback that you could sense was always on the cards.

Priory went one down in just the fourth minute when the tall young Heath forward got in behind the Priory defence and took his time to slot past Halsey from close range. After 25 minutes, Broadbridge Heath doubled their lead when the tall forward again got behind the Priory back four, cut the ball back from the byline and it was crashed in from six yards. Priory pulled one back before the break when Will Osei converted from the penalty box after being hauled down himself (despite Joe Charles turning the ball in, the referee had already blown for the penalty).

Having remained patient and in control for much of the game, the order from the Priory dugout with a quarter hour remaining was to press higher up the field, which in turn led to Jason Woolsey latching onto the end of a James Long through ball and calmly slotting past the goalkeeper. Priory might have taken the lead with just ten minutes remaining but James Long’s excellent swivel and powerful volley was well saved by the Heath keeper. However, Priory did get the victory they deserved when Will Osei turned provider and Jason Woolsey was in the right place at the right time to slot home from close range. A good result that showed that with hard work and patience Priory will provide stern opposition next season.
