Saturday 12th April 2008- Crawley & District Premier League REIGATE PRIORY FC (0) 0 NORTHGATE ATHLETIC (0) 0 Following such a long lay off between fixtures , it was no surprising that Priory struggled to regain the form that had taken them up the table. Priory looked the most likely to score in the first half with the best chance falling to Ellett , but his header went wide. The second half again Priory could have snatched victory but chances came and went. Northgate also had their opportunities and Shearman was required to pull out a couple of fine saves. Team: Shearman,Mclaughlin,Hogg,Allen,Eaton,Ellett,Brain,Read,Whiting,Edmonds,Reid.
Saturday 1st March 2008- Crawley & District Premier League REIGATE PRIORY FC (1) 1 HOLLAND SPORTS (1) 2 Whiting1 This was always going to be a tough game for Priory ,which came true
after 10 minutes when Holland scored .After a shaky start Priory got
their heads together and played the better football. In the 30 th minute a
great cross field ball by Ryan Eaton found Gareth W-Balcombe who side
footed a volley past the keeper.
The second half Priory created chances but failed to make good use of
them. This was Priory`s un-doing as Holland headed home a winner in the 25 BUBBLE SQUEEKS A SCORCHER! Saturday 23rd February 2008- Crawley & District Premier League MERSTHAM NEWTON (0) 0 REIGATE PRIORY FC (1) 2 ReidL1,Christoforu1 Priory out on the road again travelling to top of the league Merstham
Newton. On arrival and Priory doing their warm up the question was put to
the referee about the condition of the pitch and should the game be
played. It was going to be a awkward game as Priory tried to play football
but not on a good pitch.Priory had most of the possession during the first
half but not taking their chances .All Merstham could do was tolaunch a long
ball forward which succeeded when the ball was flicked on for the Merstham
forward to run through and be 1 on 1 with Pete Shearman who stood strong
and made a valuable save.Priory looked like they were not going to score
with all their possession until Luke Raid got the ball on the left and
crossed a great ball in ,which missed everyone and ended up in the
Merstham net with keeper not being able to do anything about it.
The second half Priory`s defence soaked up Merstham pressure .This allowed
Priory to carry on playing some real entertaining football.Halfway through
the half Andy '' THE BUBBLE '' Christoforou picked the ball up on the edge
of the Merstham penalty box and cooly curled the ball away from the keeper
and into the net. This was a superb result as Priory have taken six points
off Merstham this season and even the Merstham keeper admitted at the end
of the game that Priory played Merstham off the park with some great
football.This was a brillant all round team performance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 16th February 2008- Crawley & District Premier League BLETCHINGLEY (1 ) 1 REIGATE PRIORY FC (1) 4 Edmonds1,OG1,ReidL1,CostaschukM1
Saturday 9th February 2008- Crawley & District Premier League REIGATE PRIORY FC (4) 7 ST FRANCIS FLYERS (0) 0 ReadC2,Whiting2,Edmonds1,Eaton1,Ellett1 Into the second half and within minutes Charles Reads wonder strike from 30 yds made it five.Whilst the Flyers continued to battle to get something out of the game it was always now going to be Priorys day and the 6th goal came as Whiting caught the centre back napping then turned toward goal and converted comfortably. The Flyers had no answer to Priorys pace with Charles Read , Luke Reid and Elletts creative trickery in midfield created numerous opportunities. Seventh heaven arrived through Charles Read, as his pace set him through on goal and he slotted the ball home. Priory were able to use all subs early and the inclusion of Lawrence,Costascuk and Christoforu was seemless maintaining Priorys attacking positive spirit. Still a lot to come from this young side and consistency is the key to finishing the campaign in winning form. Priory travel to Beletchingley next week. The rest of the half was scrappy with no more chances created by either side. The second half carried on like the first. After 20 mins gone Luke Reid was fouled in the box for Priory to be awarded a penalty ,to which Gareth W- Balcombe slotted pass the keeper.Priory had a couple of chances that was close but failed to make the most of them. The best chance fell to Mark ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 5th January 2008- Crawley & District Premier League REIGATE PRIORY FC (2) 5 MERSTHAM NEWTON (1) 1 Whiting2,Ellett1,ReadC1,Paddley1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Saturday 15th December 2007- Crawley & District Premier League THREE BRIDGES 'A' (1)1 REIGATE PRIORY FC (3) 4 ReidL3,Whiting1 With a number of changes again Priory started possitively and played some real entertaining football. It did not take long for Priory to score with W-Balcombe hiting a great free kick only for the goal keeper to spill with Reid, the first to react, and score past the keeper. Priory carried on pushing forward but waisted numerous chances. Soon after Bridges broke away, crossed the ball from the right hand side for them to equalise. With Priorys defence holding firmly and letting Bridges have no chances, Priory broke away and a ball passed through to Reid to slot home passed Bridges keeper. 5 minutes later a great solo effort from Luke Reid after he lobbed the ball over the defender and hit it first time on the volley passed the ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Saturday 1st December 2007- Crawley & District Premier League REIGATE PRIORY FC (0) 1 PHOENIX UNITED (1) 7 Edwards1 With another changed side Priory struggled to play any type of football. With Phoenix starting well out of the blocks and playing good football Priory did well to hold them and not letting Phoenix score a goal. However after 15 mins a mix-up in the Priory defence allowed a Phoenix forward to run through and score the only goal of the half. Phoenix started the second half the stonger of the two sides and quickly scored 2 goals.Priory managed to get a goal back when PJ Edwards scored ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ST FRANCIS FLYERS (0) 0 REIGATE PRIORY FC (3) 4 Edmonds2,Edwards1,Bance1 Priory achieved their best result of the campaign to date with a thorough demolition of St Francis Flyers. Priory took the game to their oponents right from the start piling on the pressure and creating numerous opportunities. Priory went in front after 10 mins when Edmonds crashed in his shot from from close range. Priory continued to open up the flyers and missed many chances thus keeping the game tight. The Flyers had their own chances and but from some superb saves from Shearman could have turned the game. With Half Time approaching Priory extended their lead when Eatons cross was headed home by Bance. Within minutes, Edwards run down the left and subsequent cross found Ellet whose shot was well saved by the keeper , but Edmonds was at hand to convert the rebound to make 3-0 at half time. Into the second half and the Flyers started with more intent pressing the Priory goal. However , Priory in a breakaway attack saw Edwards cut in from the right and his hard and low right foot shot beat the keeper to make it 4-0. The remainder of the game was quite even with both sides having further chances , but the game concluded with a 4-0 win for Priory. This was a much better performance by Priory for which the team can build on. Townsend and Snape in the defence were solid and the rearranged pairing of Ellett and Allen in midfield worked well with Ellet putting in another lively performance. Strikers Edmonds and Edwards starting to find their form with Edwards now off the mark. Alex Brain had a good game on Priorys left flank and Eaton was a presence with his contribution from left back with his crosses. Hogg put in a solid defensive display on Priory right. With the result secure Priory had the opportunity to give good run outs for Nick Taylor and Jamie Williams. This result takes Priory above half way in the table to 6th position. Team:Shearman,Hogg,Snape,Townsend,Eaton,Bance,Allen,Ellett,Brain,Edmonds,Edwards,Taylor,Williams. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 10th November- Crawley & District Premier League REIGATE PRIORY FC (1) 1 THREE BRIDGES 'A' (2) 2 Brain1. Priory started the game the brighter side and played some good football which caused Briges problems. With Priory playing the ball around this made Bridges to change their formation and go back to a 4 - 4 - 2.With 20 mins gone Ali Bance recieved the ball out on the right hand side which he whipped in a cross to the penalty spot for a Alex Brain to connect with to slot home pass the keeper.Priory carried on pressing forward for a second goal when Bridges broke away only to be tackled at the last minute to receive a corner. The corner was floated in for the Bridges forward to have a free header to level the game.Bridges spirit was up and kept driving forward with 15 mins left of the half bridges broke free and slotted the ball home to make it 2 - 1. The second half carried on much like the first with Priory moving the ball around but not really capitalizing on their chances.Michael Ellett moved up front and within minutes broke free for his defender only to be denied by the post.Priory kept pushing forward and holding Bridges to long range efforts. With 20 mins left Michael Ellett and the Bridges keeper both went up for the ball only for the keeper to spill the ball on to Michael Ellett who put the ball into the net.Priory thought they had scored the equalizer only for the Bridges linesman to flag for a handball when the keeper fumbled the ball on to Michael Ellett. The game finished 2 - 1 which was very disappointing as Priory had most of the possession . STAINES LAMMAS (3) 5 REIGATE PRIORY FC (0) 1 Costaschuk1. Priorys first Surrey Cup game at Intermediate level was always going to be tough, but the unavailability of a number of 1st team players and the late pull out by 3 players at the last moment meant that Priory traveled to Staines with eleven with Mark Peters , Dan Peters and the DOF being named on the bench. All credit to the eleven that battled their way through this game. On the day this was not necessarily an insurmountable fixture and Staines Lammas were definitely beatable but slack defending in the early period of the game meant that Priory found themselves 3-0 down within 30 mins. Priory had their own chances in the first half with Ellett and Bance having some glorious chances. Into the second half Priory changed their formation with the hope of getting back into the game but suffered an early set back as Staines Lammas increased their lead to 4-0. Priory continued to battle and offensively at times moved the ball well. Christoforo lived up to his 'Super Mario' image and worked tirelessly in the midfield along side Priory Youngster Joe Brown. Staines increased their lead to 5-0 , but Priory were able to get a consolation goal as the effervescent Ellett cross shot was converted at close range by Michael Costaschuk.Whilst no one likes to lose, the fixture provided further intermediate football experience to a number of youngsters Team:Shearman,Taylor,Hogg,Allen,Eaton,Reid,Christoforu,Brown,Bance,Ellett,Costaschuk,PetersM,PetersD,AveryS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 27th October - Crawley & District Senior Cup 1st Round. REIGATE PRIORY FC (2) 5 FURNACE GREEN ROVERS (0) 1 Ellet3,Mountain1,Edmonds1. Ells Bells ! - Ellett strikes three! Priory made it two on the bounce as they overcame 1st Division side Furnace Green Rovers in the 1st Round of the Crawley & District Senior Cup at Park Lane on saturday. Furnace Green Rovers came to Priory with the reputation of a goal scoring machine but it was Priory who started the brighter of the two teams. Ellett opened the scoring as he cut into the box from the right with his shot just beating the keeper on the nearside post. Priory increased their lead through Edmonds as he robbed the defender and lobbed his shot over the keeper. In the second half Furnace Green started the brighter as Priory let the pace slacken. Priory then extended their lead, with Ellett now up front , he brought down an Eaton cross skillfully, turned inside and struck his shot into the roof of the net. Priory made it four as Mountain scored from the spot as Ellett was brought down in the box. Ellett made it five to secure his hattrick. Furnace Green achieved a deserved consolation goal to make the final core 5-1 to Priory. Priorys form is now on an improving scale , and with players coming back from injury , managers Andy and Mark Peters are starting to have numerous options , thus creating greater competition for places. The new signings are starting to settle and the squad is starting to gell. Next saturday Priory are away to Staines Lamas in the 1st Round of the Surrey County Intermediate Cup. Team: Shearman,Hogg,Snape,Townsend,Eaton,Ellett,Mountain,Christoforu,Brain,Edmonds,Edwards,Allen,Whiting,Flora. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 20th October - Crawley & District Premier. PHOENIX UTD (0) 0 REIGATE PRIORY FC (1) 1 Eaton1. A superb performance by Pete Shearman in Priorys goal and the return of the 'Spirit of 07' saw Reigate Priory achieve their first win of the season against last years champions Phoenix Utd. Priory had a set back even before the game started with Ellett struggling in the warm up and had to start on the bench. In an even 1st half both teams had good opportunities to score , but poor finishing kept the game tight. Priory took the lead when Eatons goal bound inswinging free kick took a slight deflection off the Phoenix defender into the top corner. Phoenix then upped the tempo and had numerous opportunities to equalise but Priory survived to half time. In the second half Phoenix continued to apply pressure and enjoyed the majority of possession , but Priory were resilient and hardworking and were not going to give up their lead easily. Then , a penalty was conceded. The Phoenix striker struct a firm shot high and left of Shearman , but Shearman got his finger tips and saved , tipping the strike over the bar. Phoenix continued to apply the pressure but were now leaving themselves more exposed at the back and Priory had a number of opportunities to finish the game off , but could not deliver the killer strike. Priory continued holding the Phoenix and held out for their deserved win. This was an excellent team performance with all contributing , Priory can now build on this and start to climb the table. Team: Shearman,Hogg,Snape,Townsend,Eaton,Edwards,Christoforu,Mountain,Brain,Flora,Edmonds,Ellett,Leask. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 13th October - Crawley & District Premier. REIGATE PRIORY FC (2) 2 IFIELD EDWARDS II (1) 3 Whiting1,Edmonds1. Back to the league programme this week .Both sides look nervous but after 15 mins gone Ifield`s left back hit a great srike and the ball fizzed passed Shearman who looked unsighted as the ball came through a crowd of players. It did not take long and Priory started to pass the ball around and with their new signing Alex Brain taking on two players only to be brought down in the pealty box .Whiting stepped up and calmly struck the ball home. With more Priory pressure came another goal with Edwards firing a shot at goal only for the Ifield keeper to spill the ball to Edmonds who finished easily. Second half Priory carried on playing good football but not taking any of their chances. With 8 mins left the day turned sour as a Ifield player who was flagged offside but was allowed to carry on by the referee only to be caught by Shearman on the way through. The referee decided to give Shearman a straight red for the challenge.McLaughlin stepped into goal for Ifield`s penalty only to just miss saving the shot. With Priory down to 10 men Ifield put pressure on when a cross came in from the right and not beind cleared for a Ifield player to stike the ball home to take all 3 points. REIGATE PRIORY FC (0) 1 MAIDENBOWER VILLAGE (0) 4 Whiting1(pen) A change this week for Priory from their league games and a chance to progress in a cup run. With players being unavailable it was a chance for two U17 to be called up and given a game .Neiter James Leask or Joe Brown looked out of place on their debuts for the Priory 1st. Priory started out of the blocks and quickly attacked Maidenbower with Mountain crossing from the right for Ellett to just head over the bar by a whisker. After the initial hussle and bussle neither team really created much. The only chance fell to Maidenbower just befor half-time with a cross come shot just passing the post. The second half stared bright for both sides, however that did not last long after a few errors in Priory`s play allowed Maidenbower to score two quick goals. After this Priory tried their best to get back into the game and pressing forward for a goal they got caught on the break only for Maidenbower to score two more quick goals.Priory with 2 mins left did get a consolation penalty which was struck superbly by Garth B- Whiting. NORTHGATE ATHLECTIC (2)3 REIGATE PRIORY FC (0) 2 OG.2 Following an encouraging pre season build up Priory were far from their best in their openning fixture against Northgate Athletic. A dissapointing first half and a 2-0 deficit at half time and apart from some heroics from Pete Shearman in the Priory goal , it could have been worse. In the second half Priory improved and started to compete , and pulled a goal back with an own goal from a corner. Priory then suffered a set back when Pete Davies was shown a straight Red Card for dissent. However , Priory achieved an equaliser following some good work from Jamie Williams and Ben Lidbury forcing another own goal. Northgate regained the lead a few minutes later and closed out the game as 3-2 victors. Pete Shearman had an outstanding game and kept Priory in the game throughout. A dissapointing performance with Priory far from their best and some early lessons to be learnt where discipline has to be much improved.Charles Read joined Priorys hospital team sustaining a bad injury to his wrist and could be out for six weeks. Team: Shearman,Mclaughlin,Eaton,Davies,Williams,Read,Mountain,Hogg,Ellett,Moss,Edwards,Reid,Lidbury,Lawrence. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday 21st August 2007 - Friendly. REDHILL RESERVES (0)1 REIGATE PRIORY FC (1) 4 Edwards1,Edmonds2,Moss1 Priory have come a long way since this corresponding friendly fixture last year where a 1-1 result was achieved on the night. Priorys progress over the past few weeks has been clear to see , displaying an increased purpose. In excellent playing conditions Priory had numerous opportunities in the first half and were somewhat dissapointed to only go into half time with a 1-0 lead following an opportunist goal by striker Luke Edmonds. Read and Ellett were rampant down the flanks whipping in crosses which just were not converted. In the second half Redhill started to get back into the game and equalised. It looked like Priory were going to pay for those earlier missed opportunities. However, Priory upped the tempo again and scored a further 3 goals through Edmonds,Edwards and Moss enabling Priory to come out as comfortable winners on the night. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Saturday 18th August 2007 - Friendly. CHARLWOOD FC (0)0 REIGATE PRIORY FC (1) 3 Og1,Edwards1,Edmonds1 Priory put in a solid performance on saturday to overcome a strong Charlwood side. The game was pretty much even and competitive throughout and provided a good preseason workout for both teams. Priory took the lead when Eatons free kick was edged into the net by a Charlwood defender. Priory completed the victory by two further well taken goals. Firstly , Edwards superb strike from the edge of the box which flew over the keeper and Edmonds who rose elegantly to outjump the Charlwood defender with good headed finish. Priorys next friendly is on Tuesday against Redhill Reserves at 7.30pm KO. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Saturday 21st July 2007 - Friendly. RUSTHALL FC (2) 4 REIGATE PRIORY FC (0) 2 Wheeler1,Lawrence1 Reigate Priory commenced their preseason friendlies with a visit to Kent County Premier side Rusthall FC at the weekend. This game was always going to be a tough test for Priory and so it proved in the first half as Rusthall dominated through large passages of play with their superior possession football. Rusthall took the lead after 10 mins as their striker nipped in to guide the ball into the net following a whipped in cross from the right. Rusthall further increased their lead following some controlled possesion, finished off with shot from outside the box which Martin in the Priory goal could only get his fingertips to. It was'nt all one way traffic and good goal scoring chances fell to Reid , Moss and Edwards but they were unable to provide the quality finish. Into the second half and Priory started with improved defensive discipline and started to breakdown Rusthalls dominance. The flowing play that Rusthall had enjoyed in the first half dissipated and Priory came more into the game. With a free kck awarded just outside the box , Edmonds strike rebounded off the wall only for Wheeler to follow up with a screemer of a volley into the top corner. With improving confidence and belief Priory were now making a game of it. Priorys equaliser came through a penalty. Lawrence stepped up to convert. With 10 minutes remaining Priory suffered their own penalty set back and Rusthall regained the lead. Rusthall put the game beyond Priory as Priory lost concerntration on a corner and the ball was struct into the roof of the net. This was a good first friendly for Priory against opposition from a higher league. With some new faces on show and players coming into the side following injuries from last year this can be considered positive progress. Next week Priory 1sts and Reserves travel to Combined Counties outfit Hartley Witney. Team:Martin,Mclaughlin,Hogg,Reid,Wheeler,Rolands,Moss,Eaton,Allen,Mountain,Edwards,Edmonds,Read,Lawrence,Taylor Christoforu.
