REIGATE PRIORY (2) 2 CHARLWOOD (0) 1 (Game played at Charlwood)
ReidL2
Priorys last home game of the season was played at Charlwood as Reigate Priorys home ground was unavailable as the Cricket Season is now well on its way. Thanks go to Charlwood for providing their pitch for the game to go ahead.
The game was probably a typical end of season game, and with League positions already decided this game did not have the normal edge in a fixture that has previously produced some competitive encounters over the years. With a hardenned pitch in hot conditions it was difficult to produce controlled football. Priory started well as Luke Reid opened the scoring within 5 mins as he darted into the box and struck a 1st time shot . Charlwood generally looked for their tall striker and had their moments as balls into the box put Priory under pressure but they were unable to offer the finishing touch. Priory extended their lead as Luke Reid in similar fashion to his first goal struck his shot beyond the keeper.
Priory started the second half well and created some good goal scoring opportunities but a mixture of great saves from their keeper and near misses kept the score tight. Charlwood pulled a goal back from their keeper, in a goal that resembled the goal scored by Robinson for Spurs a few weeks ago. The keeper took the free kick from within his half and with one bounce in Priorys box , the ball looped over Shearman in the Priory goal , off the underside of the bar into the net. With the scoreline close Priory pushed to extend their lead and good chances fell to Edmonds and Moss. Charlwood almost equalised when an inswinging right foot shot from their winger was superbly saved by Shearman. Final score 2-1.

25/4 - PRIORY WIN DRAMATIC CUP FINAL AND ACHIEVE DOUBLE.
Wednesday 25th April 2007- Redhill & District Senior Cup Final
BROCKHAM (0) (1) 2 REIGATE PRIORY (0) (1) 2 Reigate Priory won 4-2 on penalties.
Ellett1,Avery1 Penalty Scorers: ReidL,Shear,Ellett and Moss
Wednesdays Cup Final victory over Brockham secured Priorys first 'Double' in 100 years when in 1907 Reigate Priory were Champions of Southern Amateur League Senior B and went on to be winners of the AFA Surrey Senior Cup. However , Wednesdays game turned out to be full of drama and twists and turns. The match also attracted a big support for both teams and the banter and rivalry from the supporters added that edge to a very close game. It was clear from the start that both teams were really up for it and time on the ball was at a premium. Passing football was out weighed by a more direct approach as both midfield were closed down quickly. Priory had a great chance within 5 mins as Ellett from 5 yds only had the keeper to beat but he failed to connect. Apart from free kicks into the box and the odd cross which both defences dealt with, the 1st half was void of good goal scoring opportunities. The second half started in the same format. Then , Brockham seized their opportunity when Priory failed to clear. With Shearman off his line the Brockham striker cleverly placed his shot over the keeper just under the bar to give Brockham a 1-0 advantage. Priory tried to get back into the game but they were failing to make progress against a stubborn Brockham outfit. With 15 mins remaining Priory made some changes with Luke Reid coming on up front to partner Moss and moments later Charles Reid coming on into right midfield. Priory were now starting to get going but with minutes remaining it looked like Brockham were going to hold out for victory. Then, with a free kick awarded , Priory had the opportunity to apply some final pressure. Wheeler struck his left footed cross right on top of the keeper. As the keeper failed to hold , the ball dropped on the line and Ellett stepped in to equalize. Is this Deja Vous or what ! Full Time 1-1.
Into extra time and Priorys spirits were high. Within minutes , another free kick for Priory , up stepped Wheeler , inswinging left footed free kick , keeper drops and this time Avery was in the right place to stab the ball over the line 2-1 , South Godstone all over again. For the first time in this game Priory were looking at possible victory. With the game still end to end Brockham were trying to get back into match and following a cross into Priorys box , Shear was judged to have hand balled and Brockham were awarded a penalty. This was converted with Shearman going the wrong way 2-2. The second period of extra time remained goalless thus taking the encounter to a penalty shoot out.
With the supporters of both teams at this point becoming extremely vocal it was going to take some cool brave heads to deal with the penalty taking.
Priory went first , up stepped 17 year old Luke Reid , scores 1-0 Priory. Brockham, scores 1-1.
Up Steps Shear , scores 2-1. Brockham , Shearman dives to right and saves. Up steps Whiting , keeper saves to his left 2-1.
Brockham , Shearman at full stretch saves 2-1. Up steps Ellett , scores 3-1. Brockham , scores 3-2. Up steps Moss , knowing a score seals victory. The big man does not dissapoint , strikes his shot beyond the keeper into the bottom right, 4-2 and Reigate Priory win the 2006/7 Senior Cup. Phew!
Special congratulations to 1st Team managers Andy Davis and Mark Peters for steering the Priory to a special and successful season. Since coming into the club they have work extremely hard with the squad and have brought on many youngsters who have featured in the second half of the season.

MARLPIT UTD () Withdraw REIGATE PRIORY ()

SOUTH GODSTONE (3) 5 REIGATE PRIORY (0) 2
Whiting2
Priory went to South Godstone on Tuesday evening knowing a win would be enough to win the title , but South Godstone had other ideas. Priory got off to the worst possible start as South Godstone pressured Priorys defence from the start and within the first 10 mins had shots rebounding of the bar and post. Priory struggled to deal with the aerial balls into the box and found themselves 1-0 down as the South Godstone striker headed home. South Godstone continued to be the stronger of the two sides and scored a further 2 goals before the break. Priory made two early substitutions in an attempt to change the flow of the game. In the second half Priory started well and Flora had an early opporunity to score but the keeper saved. Priory pulled one back through a penalty which was converted by Whiting. Hopes were raised as a fight back seemed possible , but such hopes faded as South Godstone went 4-1 ahead as Priory failed to clear their defensive lines. Priory made it 4-2 through another penalty with Whiting again converting. Again a glimmer of hope , but any recovery was eventually squashed as Priory failed to deal with cross into the box and South Godstone put the game beyond Priorys reach. On the night Priory were beaten by the better team and need to recover from this loss quickly as they take on
Marlpit Utd on saturday in a championship race that looks like its now going down to the final weekend on the 28th April.

KENLEY (0) 0 REIGATE PRIORY (2) 4
Edmonds2,Whiting1,Ellett1
In very hot playing conditions Priory struggled to get their football going. It would be very easy to focus this report on whats not going right with Priorys offensive game but with playing statistics of 9 wins and a draw in the last 10 games , the current situation is very positive. Priorys current 1st team has been built on Youth and with most of the players still under the age of 21 years , the potential for the future is clear to see. With many quality individuals in the side the challenge lies in developing the basics skills of possession football in addition to the desire not to hit the killer pass every time which often results in giving possesion back to the opposition. The goals against Kenley came from those moments where Priory achieved some passing play with some good finishes. Priory were ahead after 5 mins when Ellett headed home from Edmonds inswinging corner. Edmonds made it two as he struck his shot left footed beyond the diving keeper. The second half saw further goals from Whiting and a second for Edmonds. Whitings goal came from another Edmonds corner with a clever tap with the outside of his boot. Edmonds second goal was a well taken right foot strike which takes him to 12 goals from 7 games. Priory continue to be resilient defensively and the team works hard in this department. Priory go to South Godstone on Tuesday in a game that brings the top two together. Priory need to be really up for this encounter in a fixture that could go a long way in deciding the outcome of the title race.

REIGATE PRIORY (0) 5 WOODLAND ALBION (0) 0
Edmonds3,Whiting1,Moss1
Edmonds hattrick just the solution.
This was Priory's last weekend of football on the Park Lane pitch as the ground prepares for the Cricket. A beautiful sunny easter saturday with the 1st Team and the 'B' scheduled. However , not such a beautiful 1st half as Priory struggled to break down a resilient Woodland Albion. As neither team really threatened each other, the 1st half drew to a close at 0-0 and Priory definitely required a 'wake up' call at half time. Following the first 10 minutes of the second half Priory still had not achieved the breakthrough. Early substitutions were made with the returning Edmonds and Ellett coming on. Edmonds turned the game and made an immediate impact scoring Priory's opener. Woodland Albion went down to 10 men when their keeper was sent off for a 2nd bookable offence. Priory were then awarded a penalty. Whiting stepped up and converted from the spot continuing his recent goal scoring form. With Priory now in control Edmonds achieved his second following some good work by Ellett , and slotted his shot beyond the keeper. Moss made it four with a lobbed shot and Edmonds completed his hat trick from a superb header from a corner.

REIGATE PRIORY (1) 2 FRENCHES ATHLETIC (0) 1
ReidL1,Whiting1
Frenches came to Park Lane on the back of 5 straight wins and an unbeaten run which extended back to to the 11th November last year , bringing them into contention for the Premier Division Tiltle race. This was therefore a must win game for both teams. On a sunny afternoon the confrontation was spoilt by windy conditions which made it difficult for controlled football and game became a cumulation of individual battles and situations where the game was going to be won or lost on moments of skill and opportunity. Priory opened the scoring through Whiting when his cross shot caught the wind and ended up flying into the top corner. Priory with the wind behind them managed to keep the game mainly in the Frenches half. Frenches had a few opportunities but their shots rarely troubled Shearman in the Priory goal. Priory almost made it two when Luke Reid out paced the defence , but he failed to connect with his left foot shot and the keeper gathered easily.
Into the second half Frenches would have been confident with the wind behind them on sustaining some presure on the Priory goal . However, within minutes found themselves 2 - 0 down. Following a good challenge by Wheeler , the ball went goal bound and Luke Reid finished off from close range. As the second half progressed Frenches were begginning to force the game and Branton,Marshall,Wheeler and Mclaughlin in the Priory defence were kept busy. Frenches pulled one back after a free kick was conceded on the edge of the box. From the Direct Free Kick the well placed strike went around the wall beyond Shearmans reach. Another nail biting finish to the game saw Priory hold out for all 3 points.

REIGATE PRIORY (1) 3 MARLPIT UTD (0) 0
Hogg1,Whiting2
Priory were back in Premier League action this week at Park Lane for the visit of Marlpit Utd. It was important for Priory to get their minds focused following last weeks semifinal victory. Priory started well and on a superb playing surface ( all credit to the groundsman ) moved the ball speedilly and Priorys full backs Branton and Shear were seeing a lot of the ball , linking well with Whiting and Ellett on the flanks. Hogg and Wheeler in midfield played well with Wheeler finding his form. Young Luke Reid partnered Moss up front and his pace was causing the Marlpit defence problems. Priory took the lead when Hogg picked up a loose ball in the box and struck his shot into the back of the net. Marlpit are a good side and it was not difficult to see why they have been on a recent unbeaten run. Their strikers were quick and Priorys defence of Marshall and Allen did well to limit their opportunities.
At the beginning of the second half Marlpit had Priory on the backfoot. However when Priory were awarded a freekick on the left , Shears delivered a cross to Whiting who hit a well controlled volley to make it 2-0.Priory generally had the edge in the second half but Marlpit were often playing a long ball for their fast strikers. On one occassion such a ball went over the top of the defence and the Marlpit striker found himself with only Shearman to beat , but Shearman saved well .Priory scored their third from the penalty spot as Reids sprint into the box was too quick for the Marlpit keeper who caught Reid as he was going through on goal. Whiting scored from the spot. Priorys substitutions were all involved as Mclaughlin came on for Whiting , Christoforo for Hogg and Flora for Luke Reid.

Saturday 17th March 2007- Redhill & District Senior Cup Semi Final
SOUTH GODSTONE (1) (1) 1 REIGATE PRIORY (0) (1) 2 (AET)
ReidL1,Avery1
FROM THE JAWS OF DEFEAT PRIORY MAKE FINAL
With just minutes remaining of this semi final tie Priory were on their way out of the Redhill & District Senior Cup competition. On a hardened pitch in blustery conditions both teams struggled to play any football. Priory with a rearrange side due to Edmonds and Allen not being eligible under the 4 game rule , started with a 4-1-4-1 strategy . With Moss up front on his own Priory struggled to get the support to him and few chances were being created. South Godstone opened the scoring with Priory failing to clear and the South Godstone striker showed good strength turning his defender and striking his shot into the roof of the net.
The second half was quite even , but South Godstone looked comfortable with their lead and Priory were creating few opportunities to equalize. Within 15 mins Whiting came on to partner Moss up front and Priory reverted to 4-4-2. Priory seemed to be more at ease with this and started to be more unified and organized in their approach. Whiting had a great opportunity to equalize as he homed in on a Moss cross , but he failed to get a good connection and the keeper saved. When Mclaughlin sustained an injury , Luke Reid joined Moss up front with Whiting moving into midfield. Additionally Williams came on for Charles Reid. Priory were slowly getting back into their game but South Godstone were holding firm. Then with minutes remaining the ball fell to Luke Reid and he struck a superb shot into the net beyond the despairing keeper. 1-1 and extra time. Priory had been given a second chance and started the first period of extra time in a positive mood. Within minutes Priory gained the lead. Branton found space on the right and floated the perfect cross and Avery ghosted into the box at the far post and rose above the challenging pack to place his header into the top corner. From the jaws of defeat Priory were in control for the first time . South Godstone , understandingly looked devastated and in a highly tense last period Priory held out for victory. Matt Moss was Priorys man of the match, with his effort and tireless running, he lead the team to a great result.

LIMPSFIELD BLUES (1) 1 REIGATE PRIORY (0) 2

Priory had to come from behind to secure a must win game away to Premiership leaders Limpsfield Blues on saturday. Priory started brightly and should have taken the lead on 5 minutes when Luke Reid outpaced the Blues defence and crossed a superb ball to Edmonds who fired over the bar from six yards. Whilst Priory created most of the chances it was Limpsfield Blues who took the lead when a long ball into the box was headed down for the striker to redirect into the net. Priory struggled to get back into the game as Limpsfield started to look comfortable with their lead.
In the second half the game was locked and Priory were struggling to make headway against the Limpsfield defence. Edmonds had an opportunity to equalise when he found himself with only the keeper to beat but his shot went wide.Priory made some changes when Whiting came on for the injured Christoforu and Shear for the injured Mclaughlin.
With 15 mins to go Priory were starting to up the tempo and creating more opportunities. The equaliser came as Brantons cross found Whiting in the box. His perfectly placed header passed the diving keeper. With spirits raised Priory were becoming more positive , and with 10 mins to go were awarded a penalty. Whiting stepped up and placed his short into the bottom left. Priory held out for all three points. This result takes Priory to within a point of Limpsfield with a game in hand.

REIGATE PRIORY (3) 4 REIGATE SALA (0) 4
Edmonds3,Ellett1

Edmonds Hat trick not enough to secure 3 points.
It all seemed business as usual as Priory went into a 3-0 lead at half time. Two goals from goal scoring machine Luke Edmonds and a goal from Ellett following some good work from Moss set up what should have been a comfortable victory. However , following the restart Priory were complacent and lost concerntration. Within 15 mins Sala had scored two goals to bring the game to 3-2. Luke Edmonds then scored his third to relieve the tension with a great headed goal and Priory again seemed to be back in control. With 10 mins remaining Priory again failed to prepare adequately for a corner and as a short corner was executed by Sala , the cross came in , and the ball was bundled over the line. Then in the last minute Sala were awarded a penalty. Langridge stepped up and converted. All credit to Sala who battled throughout and took their opportunities well , but, from Priorys point of view this was a poor two points to drop and with two big games now coming up against premiership leaders Limpsfield , and South Godstone the following weekend in the Senior Cup semi final, Priory now need to put this result behind them , get back onto the training ground and start to drive their performances forward for what is going to be a tough run in to the end of the season.

Saturday 17th February 2007- Redhill & District League Senior Cup - Quarter Final
KENLEY (0) 0 REIGATE PRIORY (1) 5
Edmonds2,Moss1,Whiting1,WilliamsJ1.
Priory had the dream start in this Quarter Final clash away to Kenley with a goal in the first minute. Averys crossfield pass behind the fullback found Whiting whos first time cross was converted by Edmonds perfectly. Ironically this put Priory into a state of , perhaps over confidence , allowing Kenley to gain momentum , making for a tight first half. Moss could have made it two as a loose ball fell to him on the edge of the box , but his strike came off the bar. Following a stern half time talk by managers Davis and Peters , Priory started the second half with more energy and started to control the game. Within 5 mins Priory had their second when Moss pounced in the box and converted with a header. With confidence building Priory were now finding their game making good use of the flanks with Ellett and Whiting. Moss and Edmonds up front were in predatory mood. Priorys rearranged back four of Branton , Hogg , Mclauglin and Shear protected Shearman well , who himself was carrying a back injury. With some of Priorys 1st team regulars unavailable its was an opportunity to take some of the clubs up and coming youngsters of Jamie Williams, Andy Christoforu and 17 yr old Luke Reid. With Williams coming on for the injured Ellett , Priory continued to press. The third came as Whiting excellent shot from outside the box found the bottom corner. Christoforu coming on for Avery added that extra bite in midfield and now Priory were in total control. Williams made it four as he cut into the box and struck his shot cleanly into the net. With 15 minutes remaining , young Luke Reid came on into right midfield. His pace and cool head added an extra dimension and in the latter stages of the game he ghosted passed the full back, and with the maturity of a seasoned player , unselfishing squared the ball to Edmonds who converted easily. This victory keeps priory in touch with a possible League and Cup double. Priorys ability to pull from some of its quality evolving youngsters is keeping their campaign alive during a period where the team is suffering from injuries and player unavailability.

REIGATE SALA (0) 0 REIGATE PRIORY (0) 2
Edmonds2
In this local derby with Reigate Sala the game was fast approaching a stalement , until , with 30 mins to go , on comes Luke Edmonds with a double strike. Up until this point the game had meandered with little goal mouth action. In the first half , which Priory looked untroubled , their penetration in the final third was lacking. A long range effort from Moss was the closest to an opener , but his shot went over the bar. Priorys defensive game continued to be well organised with Morley and Allen again looking solid with Branton and Mclaughlin on the flanks. Shearman in the Priory goal had a quiet game and dealt with what he had to do. Avery and Hogg formed the centre midfield partnership and looked comfortable. Reid and Ellett had numerous sorties down the wings but just could'nt find the penetrating crosses for Moss and Crossley up front.
In the second half , the pattern remained the same for the first 15 mins. Priorys first substition saw the entrance of Luke Edmonds who made an immediate impact. His positional play was excellent , dropping off Salas defence , he started to get into some good goal scoring positions. Edmonds broke the deadlock with a fierce shot off the inside of the post. This lifted Priory , and Reid and Ellet started getting in behind the defence on the flanks. With further substitions with Whiting and Wheeler coming on the game started to open up. Priorys second came when Whitings pass found Edmonds, and he cleverly shot passed the oncoming keeper. Whilst Priory had further opportunities to extend their lead, with minutes remaing Sala had a good goal scoring chance when Butler fired his shot just wide of the post. Still a lot to come from this young Priory side.

REIGATE PRIORY (1) 3 HORLEY TOWN 'A' (0) 0
Moss1,Whiting1,Ellett1.
Priory put their title chase back into gear with a solid performance overcoming a strong Horley Town 'A' side. With much banter leading up to this fixture, this was always going to be a tough and competitive game. The early exchanges saw numerous heavy tackles going in as Horley tried to unsettle Priorys game. Priory achieved the best possible start when Moss struck an unstoppable volley beyond the reach of the keeper after 10 mins. With spirits lifted Priory worked hard to not to allow Horley back into the game. Avery and Hogg in central midfield worked hard and at every opportunity tried to engage the pace of Reid and Ellett , supported by Mclaughlin and Shear on the flanks. The new central defence partnership of Morley and new signing Allen played well limiting Horleys strike force. Crossley up front with Moss was lively and he almost extended Priorys lead , but the Horley keeper saved well. Horley themselves almost equalised through a couple of opportunities but the subsequent shots were saved by Shearman.
The second half started with Horley on the offensive , and they almost equalised with a ferocious shot by their midfield player, saw Shearman make a fingertip save with the ball coming off the post. Priory always looked dangerous on the break, and with a through ball finding Shear with only the keeper to beat, he was brought down, and a penalty given. Whiting , who had just come on for the injured Reid, stepped up to convert from the spot. With Shear sustaining a bad injury from the earlier penalty challenge, Branton slotted into right defence with the magnificant Mclaughlin moving back to left defence. Priorys other new signing Luke Edmonds came on for Moss and look impressive and almost scored a debut goal. With 10 min remaining Whitings crossfield pass found Ellet on the left, his pace took him into the box and shot past the advancing keeper.
A good result for the Priory who now move onto the next fixture away to Reigate Sala.

REIGATE PRIORY (1) 1 SMALLFIELD (2) 3
Liddell1
Following a month long break in matches due to the recent weather , Priory put in a performance which showed a lack of match fitness. Smallfield played more as a unit and Priory only showed glimpses of the form that had taken them to the top of the Premier Division. With Crossley unavailable Priory had to readjust their front partnership and went for Moss with Wheeler in the slot. With Moss sustaining an early injury , Priorys mobility up front was limited. Smallfield took the lead after 20 mins with a fine strike which beat Shearman. Priory needed to respond , and with Moss not recovering from his earlier knock , was substituted with Avery going on up front. Additionally with Ellett moving up front and Priory returning to a traditional 4-4-2 some improvement was forthcoming and Priory set about recovering the deficit. The equaliser came when Liddell broke free and produced the perfect lob to beat the keeper. The game was even , and then on the stroke of half time , Priory failed to clear their lines and the Smallfield striker stepped in to score to give Smallfield a 2-1 lead at half time.
Priory started the second half brightly but suffered an early set back when they lost possession in midfield from which Smallfield went on to score their third. Priory made further substitutions , bringing on Edu Moss and Wilmot . Despite having most of the game in the second half, chances were squandered and Priory were unable to recover the deficit and subsequently suffered their first league defeat since February.

REIGATE PRIORY (2) 4 KENLEY (0) 0

Priory were back to their near best against Kenley at Park Lane on saturday. Following the two previous lack lustre performances Priory started with a good tempo and took the game to Kenley right from the start. Liddell was particularly impressive on the right flank and with good support from Branton and Whiting was getting a lot of the ball. In defence Branton , Chandler , Shear and Mclaughlin dealt with Kenleys' strike force comfortably. With Hogg paired with Whiting in midfield Priory were moving the ball quickly, giving the flank players of Ellett and Liddell the opportunity to attack down the wings. With Moss coming in to partner Crossley, Priory had numerous options up front. Priory scored their first when Crossley chased down a hesitant Kenley defensive moment and the ball fell kindly for him to pass the ball into an empty goal. Crossley achieved his second when his glancing header hit the back of the net from an inswinging freekick. Priory continued creating numerous opportunities in the first half but failed to extend their lead.
Into the second half Priory maintained their dominance, rarely allowing Kenley any clear cut chances.Priory scored their third when Whiting spoted their keeper off his line and from just inside Kenleys half , his long range shot found the top corner. With Wheeler on for Liddell and Wilmot on for Branton, Priory continued to press forward. A slotted through ball found Moss clear with only keeper to beat, calmly he picked his spot and made it 4-0. With Christoforu on for Moss , Priory almost made it five when Christoforus effort went narrowly wide. Kenley almost pulled a goal back , but as the ball seemed destined to hit the net , Shear rose and headed off the line to ensure Priorys clean sheet was intact.

Frenches started this encounter with greater tempo and determination and Priory relied on their defensive resiliance with Chandler and Shear outstanding. It was therefore no surprise that Frenches took the lead when their striker slipped in behind the Priory defence and scored the opener. However , Priory were able to respond immediately with a fine idividual effort from Crossley , who resisting numerous challenges was able to strike a left foot shot hard and low underneath the diving keeper. Frenches maintained their spirited performance toward half time but Priory worked hard in limiting their clear cut chances. The second half continued in the same format with very few clear cut chances being created by either team. Crossley was always a threat with is pace and work rate and almost made it two , but his shot hit the side netting. Frenches themselves almost took the lead with a shot that spiralled just over the bar. With the game moving to a stalemate Priory made an on the pitch change and moved Liddell up front with Crossley and Whiting into midfield. A rare moment of quality was forthcoming as Liddell , dropping off his marker , created some space and slipped a perfectly weighted pass for Crossley to run on to. Crossley , showed a clean pair of heals to the chasing centre back , drove into the box and his left foot strike found the corner of the net. Priory then brought on Christoforu to help close out the game. Whilst Priory struggled with their offensive game they proved again they are a difficult side to score against. Priory will undoubtedly have to improve on their offensive game if they have any aspirations for honours this year. Good wins against South Godstone and Limpsfield Blues will count for nothing if they begin to drop points elsewhere.

CHARLWOOD (0) 0 REIGATE PRIORY (1) 1
Avery1
Priory went to mid table Charlwood and in a scrappy game edge a 1-0 victory. With Crossley unavailable , Avery came in up front to partner Whiting. New signing Liddell also had his first show in right mid , replacing Reid whos back to University. The contrasting styles of the two teams seemed to lead to a perpetual deadlock. Charlwoods experiened team limited Priorys usual flowing game just to the odd moments of ball play and their offensive game seemed to be built around a long ball game to their tall striker and then supporting quickly from the midfield. This game plan did cause Priory problems but Priorys defence of Wilmot , Marshall, Shear , Mclaughlin worked hard to protect Shearman and Charlwood had very few clear cut chances. With the game evenly balanced the deadlock was broken when Avery found some space on the edge of the box and his low shot found the net just inside the post.
The second half followed the same format and Liddell could have made it two when he was set clear by Avery , but with keeper to beat , blazed his shot over the bar. Charlwood had their best effort when their tall striker hit a superb volley which looked on its way but for the fingertips of Shearman pulling off a great save. With minutes remaining Priory had another clear cut opportunity when Branton was clear and with only keeper to beat placed his shot wide of the post.

REIGATE PRIORY (2) 3 LIMPSFIELD BLUES (0) 2
Reid2,Ellett1
Priory continued their league form with an excellent performance against Limpsfield Blues. Limpsfield Blues came to Park Lane with a 100% points tally and scoring 21 goals in 3 games. With Chandler injured and Hogg moving into midfield , Priory went with a rearranged centre back partnership of Shear and Marshall. Priory had to set the tempo early to put Limpsfield on the defensive. Priory started well , working hard defensively and not allowing Limpsfield to settle. As Priory grew in confidence the opportunities started to come. The pace of Reid and Ellett on the flanks were causing problems and Crossley and Whiting up front with their pace and trickery started to move the game in Priory's favour. Branton and Hogg in midfield worked well limiting Limpfields creativity.Priorys first goal came from the spot after Whitings' shot was handled in the box, Reid converted. Limpsfield tried to respond and their long range efforts were impressive, however, Shearman was up for the challenge and was coming up with the saves. Priory extended their lead when Elletts' meandering run took him into the box and after two or three cutbacks sneaked the ball home.
Into the second half and Priory kept up their good form. Limpsfields main threat came from long balls into the box but Marshall & Shear were developing a good partnership in defence with Mclaughlin and Wilmot additionally having excellent games. However , a defining moment in the game when Limpsfield were awarded a penalty. A fantastic save by Shearman diving to his right kept the ball out. Priorys third came from a penalty earnt by Reid as he was brought down in the box. Reid stepped up to convert easily. Priory now with a 3-0 lead looked comfortable and it could have been extended when Whitings finish was judged to be offside and Crossley missed from close range. Limpsfield then came back into the game and with a direct move , their striker finished with a great shot beyond the disparing Shearman. With the game now in injury time , Limpsfield scored their second from a corner, but Priory were able to hold out and secure 3 valuable points..

REIGATE PRIORY (1) 2 BORDER & HEATH END (2) 4
Crossley1,Ainsworth1
For the second consecutive season Priorys involvement in the the Surrey Cup ended at the first hurdle. Border & Heath End who are top of the Guildford & Woking Alliance League Division 2 came to Priory with a good young side. Priory themselves just could not get going and whilst at times showed glimpses of their recent form never really did enough to win this tie. Border & Heath End took the lead when Priory failed to deal with an inswinging corner. Priory responded within minutes when Crossley moved onto a through ball and shot passed the oncoming keeper. Priory then enjoyed their best period of the game and could have taken the lead when Ellett broke free , but with just keeper to beat his shot went narrowly wide. In the final minutes of the first half Border & Heath took the lead when Priory again struggled to clear from a corner.
Priory made a half time change , with Reid coming on for Branton and Whiting slipping into midfield. Priory upped the tempo a pressed early. However , Priory suffered a major setback when Reid was sent off 10 minutes into the second half. Border & Heath took advantage and scored a further 2 goals. 10 man Priory tried to get back into the game and were able to pull a goal back 5 minutes from the end when Ainsworth converted from close range , but too late to salvage the result.

Saturday 14th October 2006 - Redhill & District Senior League Cup - 1st Round
REIGATE PRIORY (0)(1) 4 REED (1)(1) 1 (aet)
Crossley2,Shear1,Branton1
In the 1st Round of the League Cup , Priory had , what was to prove , to be a very difficult game against 1st Division Reed. Priory appeared to be tense and anxious in their play making poor choices in ball distribution and trying to rush their game playing too direct resulting in frequent loss of possession. It was know surprise , therefore , that Reed took the lead midway through the first half. Reed continued to thwart Priory and showed more composure on the ball to keep Priory at bay.
Priory in the second half showed a little more composure and gradually improved , having better possesion and creating more chances. Reid and Shear were getting into better positions and more goal scoring opportunities were being created. However , it was a speculative 35yrd strike from Shear that enabled Priory to get back into the game. This was a superb strike from distance with the goal keeper partially saving , with the ball just bouncing behind the goal line. This was contested by Reed players , but the referee stood firm and gave the goal. Whilst Priory then began creating more of the chances the game went into extra time.
Same pattern of game followed , but Priory took the lead when Reids corner was headed in by Crossley. Reed almost equalised when a ferocious left foot strike hit Priorys crossbar with a vengence. Priory went onto get their third with a superb Crossley volley and a fourth when Brantons' challenge in the box saw the ball hit the back of the net.

WOODLAND ALBION (0) 1 REIGATE PRIORY (3)4
Crossley2,Avery1,WilliamsJ1
Priory continued with their early season progress with a hard encounter away to newly promoted Woodland Albion. Due to some late arrivals Priory were forced to change their starting line up just minutes before KO. Despite this Priory started well and created some early good chances with Crossley , Shear and Hogg all going close. Priory were able to break the deadlock when the lively Crossley placed a left footed strike from outside the box. Shortly afterwards Crossley was first onto a through ball , and with the keeper advancing , lobbed his shot into the corner of the goal. Woodland Albion tried to come back into the game, and with some crosses into the box created some problems. However with the aid of a slightly slopping pitch Priory continued to have the edge in the 1st half and Avery made it three when he challenged in the box to force the ball over the line.
In the 2nd half Woodland Albion upped their tempo and were pressing hard to get back into the game. From a corner , a first time strike found its way through a crowded box into the Priory net. With 15 mins remaining , the next goal was going to be crucial. It was Priory who scored it. With Williams now on up front with Crossley , he was set through with only goalkeeper to beat , with his first shot saved , he scored with the rebound to make it 4-1.
Priory now have a two week break from the Premier Division , with the Redhill & District Senior Cup next week and the Surrey Cup following.

REIGATE PRIORY (2)4 SOUTH GODSTONE (1)1
Shear2,Hogg1,Crossley1
Priory had to draw on their full squad resources following a week of injuries and player unavailability and came up trumps with a stunning 4-1 victory over table toppers South Godstone. With Branton and Hogg moving into midfield , Willmott and Jowett coming into the full back positions and Mclaughlin then moving into centre defence with Chandler - was this going to be too many changes , not on this occassion. Priory started well and with Branton and Hogg pairing well, made good use of the wide players of Shear and Reid. Shear on the left was finding some good positions and it was from here that Priory opened their account with Shear hitting a ferocious shot wide of the keeper into the net. South Godstone up front were lively and managed to equalise when their attacker was played in, with a quick move and converted well. With the game evenly poised , Priory took the lead again when Shears got his second with almost an identical move and shot as his first. Reid was in fine form with his pace down the right and was producing opportunities for the front players.
The second half started being evenly contested. Defensively , Chandler and Mclaughlin were excellent dealing with South Godstone very able strike force. Willmott and Jowett were solid , and with Shearman putting in another fine performance with some superb saves , Priory were not going to give up their lead easily. Crossley up front , with Ellett supporting were fast and lively and worked hard and caused the South Godstone defence problems with their pace and energy. Priory were rewarded with their third when Shears cross was met with Crossleys glancing header just tucking inside the post. Shortly afterwards Priory made it four when Hogg pounced 25 yds out and hit a swerving left foot strike into the botton corner. Ellett could have made it 5 but was thwarted by the South Godstone keeper only to see his rebounded layoff to Lane just miss the top corner. South Godstone never gave up and continued in their exploits to get themselves into the game. With 10 mins remaining Williams came on for he injured Hogg and made an important contribution ensuring the midfield kept strong.

SMALLFIELD (0)0 REIGATE PRIORY (0)0
Defensively Reigate Priory put in another spirited performance but were unable to build on this foundation to secure the 3 points. With Morley unavailable , Hogg stepped in to partner the magnificant Chandler in central defence. Wheeler pulled out just before KO due to not fully recovering from a virus.During the first 10 minutes Priory dominated forcing numerous corners. With goal line scrambles Smallfield survived this early pressure and came more into the game. Priory should have been one up when Reids run down the the right and square ball found Crossley with only the keeper to beat , but the keeper saved well. As the game progressed into the second half Priory seemed to have the edge on the chances. Shearman was rarely fully tested and dealt with a few long range efforts and crosses comfortably. With only minutes remaining , following a free kick , Chandler almost capped the perfect performance with a goal, but again the keeper managed to keep the ball out of the goal.
Priory not yet firing on all cylinders on their offensive game, need to improve for the visit of South Godstone at Park Lane next saturday.

HORLEY TOWN 'A' (0)0 REIGATE PRIORY (1)2
Reid 2
Following a full preseason programme of training and friendlies , Priory went straight into a very tough fixture away to
Horley Town 'A' . This has become a very competitive encounter and Priory new they were in for a game. The match lived up to expectations with both teams competing to gain an advantage in the early stages. Crossley had an early chance from Reids cross but Horleys keeper saved well. Horley were equally causing problems to Priory and had some opportunities themselves with shots going narrowly wide. Then following a through ball , Crossley on goal was brought down earning Priory a penalty. Reid stepped up and converted comfortably from the spot.
The second half started well for Priory as they settled better and started moving the ball. Crossley almost made it two,and with his shot being saved by the keeper , Reids follow up strike blazed over the bar. Priory secured their second when Reid broke into the box and chipped the advancing keeper. Horley responded by pushing players forward. Shearman was in good form and pulled off a fine save to his right .Whilst the pressure was intense Priory held firm. The central defence of Chandler and Morley were in top form with Branton and Hogg keeping defensively secure. Marshall and Wheeler worked extremely hard in midfield driving the team forward. Shears and Mclaughlin were threatening down the flank and never lost sight of their defensive duties.
A good start to the season and Priory now look to the next League game away to Smallfield on the 23rd September.
