PRIORY SURVIVE FIRST SEASON IN SURREY ELITE LEAGUE

Following saturdays result with Battersea Ironsides beating Woodmansterne Hyde 5-0 , Priory knew their seasons objectives of surviving their first season in the Surrey Elite League had been achieved. Its been an extremely tough year , not without its problems , however the club wish to thank all its players for their hard work in making it possible.

Friday 1st May 2009 - Surrey Elite Intermediate League

REIGATE PRIORY (0) 0   CROYDON GREENSIDE (1) 3

A night fixture for Priory being played at Redhill FC.Croydon started the game the better of the two teams but failed to take advantage. It was not until the 30 minute when Croydon were awarded a dubious penalty, which they scored and took the lead. The best chance of the first half for Priory came towards the end of the half when Daniel Peters shot only just went over the bar. Priory changed their formation for the second half which helped as they pushed Croydon back and it was not until a defensive mistake by Priory that lead to Croydon making it 2 - 0.In the 25 minute of the second half
Croydon scored a third from a corner to wrap up the game.Another very disappointing game for the Priory.

WRAYSBURY (1) 3  REIGATE PRIORY (1) 1

                              Eaton1

This was Priory`s last away fixture of the season and three points on the road would be great to help Priory stay up.The game started evenly considering Priory had 4 changes in the team again. In the 20 minute Priory had a corner which was played short to Ryan Eaton to smash the ball into the bottom corner of the net .Priory kept Wraysbury at arms reach until injury time in the first half wen Wraysbury broke through to make it 1 - 1. Priory in the second half had a few chances to score but failed at the last hurdle .It was Wraysbury who scored next as their forward ran through
and slotted pass the Priory keeper.Priory had a clear and shut case for a penalty when Simon Davies was taken out by the Wraysbury keeper, however the referee did not see that is was a penalty ( somehow i think everyone watching and playing could see it was .As Priory tried to go forward and with 10 minutes left Wraysbury made it 3 - 1 to put the game beyond Priory`s reach.

REIGATE PRIORY   (0) 0   LIPHOOK UTD  (3) 5

This game was always going to be a tough one. Liphook Utd the current leaders of the Surrey Elite were in no mood to provide Priory with any handouts. Liphooks game plan was a very direct approach often by passing Priory 5 man midfield. Priory worked hard to close down Liphook but just did not have enough to see it through. Liphook opened the scoring after 25 mins and a further 2 goals gave them a comfortable lead at half time. An early second half goal took it to 4-0. Priory then seemed to steady themselves and whilst not ever staging any sustained pressure themselves held Liphook. However with minute remaining Priory conceded a penalty enabling Liphook to finish off the game 5-0. Priorys only consolation was that Woodmansterne Hyde lost 5-1 to Elm Grove keeping them just above the drop zone. Priory have a tough run in with two games against Wraysbury and the other against Croydon Greenside.Priory need to focus  in scrapping for every opportunity to see out the campaign.

FGIF REPORT* ( Paul Roth from Football Grounds in focus ran a feature on Woodmansterne Hyde on Easter Monday, click link to view).
Following saturdays humiliation at Croydon Greenside, the Easter Monday fixture away to Woodmansterne Hyde was always going to put the pressure on the players to respond and to identify who was up for the fight. With six players brought up from the Reserves due to player unavailability and with the Dof and 1st Team Co Manager Mark Peters on the bench it was all about team spirit.  Priory did not dissapoint. Mclaughlin and Wolstone in central defence were immense winning the aerial battle with Hogg and Peters in support. Michael Che and Karl Paddley were absolutely fantastic in central midfield with Paddley , carrying a hamstring injury giving one of the most determined performances driving himself through the pain barrier. Che , with his strength and distribution worked tirelessly creating opportunities for Read and Page up front with Jamie Williams providing the wing play. Priory created most of the chances but it took a while before Page pounced on a goalkeeping error to put Priory 1-0 up. Woodmansterne were particularly dangerous down the left flank and did have the moments but Priory held strong. Priory should had made it two just before half time but Pages shot was deflected onto the post by the keeper.

In the second half Woodmansterne pushed for the equaliser and had three good chances to equalise but failed to hit the target. Priory now were more on the counter attack and Read had a glorious chance only to see his shot drift over the bar. With a tense finish , Priory held out for all three points.

This was a great team performance with a single focus to work the opposition. Priorys run in is extremely tough , but todays performance gives the club some hope of survivng the drop.

In a game that Priory needed to pick up some points to keep their Elite hopes alive the wheels basically fell off he wagon. In a limp display of quality and heart Priory found themselves 3 - 0 down after 13 minutes due to some poor defending. The half did not get any better as Priory conceded a further two goals to leave themselves 5-0 down at halftime.

With Manager Andy Davies reading the riot act questioning the commintment of his players , in the second half Priory saw some slight improvement with goals from Chandler & Stone. However Greenside scored a further three goals to leave Priory in tatters with in 8-2 defeat.

Another midweek game for Priory and a long journey to Wandsworth.A bad start by Priory cost them by conceding a goal within the the first 5 minutes. It took Priory 15 minutes or so to get into the game and as they did started playing football and really put Battersea under pressure and should have really scored 3 or 4 chances ,but the chances were not taken. At halftime the Priory should have been in the lead but Battersea went in 1-0 up. The second half Priory carried on putting Battersea under pressure, however it was Battersea who broke away and scored two quick goals to make it 3 - 0. Priory kept their heads and played some great football and it was not until 30 minutes had gone when Chris Page headed home from a cross on the left hand side.As the game came to a end ,it was another game in which Priorycould and should have won .

Another home fixture for Priory against Hyde who Priory needed to beat. The game started poorly for Priory as they never really passed the ball well .It was Hyde who broke the deadlock after 20 minutes .Neither team played great ,Priory had a couple of shots that just went wide ,but it was Hyde who took the lead to halftime . The game carried on like the first half and was not till Hyde were awarded a penalty and made it 2 - 0.Priory after this created 3 or 4 chances but failed to score .As Priory went forward Hyde broke away and made it 3 - 0 .With 7 minutes left Priory seemed to find another gear and score 2 quick goals by Michael Che and Joe Chandler to put pressure on Hyde for the last few minutes .In the dieind seconds of the game Priory swung a corner in and headed towards goal only for a defender to clear off the line  A bad result for Priory who still need points to stay out of the drop zone .

A typical mid week game ,everybody rushing to get to the match for kickoff. The game kicked off late and this showed ad Priory struggled to get into their stride from their game at the weekend .It was not until the 20th minute when Andy Castle smashed the ball home from close range for Priory to take the lead .Within 5 minuteds a corner was swung in and was headed home by a Esher player to make it 2 - 0 at halftime . Priory still did not get into a stride of playing football and with 15 minutes gone Esher grabbed a goal back .Priory held Esher at bay when the put pressure on .The game ended 2 - 1 .This was the first time this season that Priory had won back to back games.

After being beat twice this season by Milford ,Priory had alot to improve on . Priory from the first whistle looked on top and created good chances but somehow failed to score it was not until 25 minutes had gone when Chris Page slotted the ball home at the back post to make it 1 - 0. It was not long after when Chris Page broke through and slotte dthe ball past the Milford Keeper to make it 2 - 0. The second half Priory started well and played great football and create chance after chance but did not put the ball into the net .It was not until half way through the half when Ollie O`Boyle broke away from his marker to strike the ball home to make it 3 - 0. A great team performance and also a great clean sheet for Dan Peters in goal after going between the sticks at the last minute before kickoff.

REIGATE PRIORY   (0) 0    EPSOM EAGLES (4) 4

Priory were full of confidence going into this fixture against Epsom Eagles following last weeks previous 3-1 win over 3rd place Horsley. Eagles themselves were in fine form as following their dissapointing exit from the Surrey Cup they pulled off a 3-2 win over table toppers Liphook Utd. However , today was all about a breathtaking first half performance by the Eagles. Their flowing , entertaining football was too much for Priory as they tried to stay in the game. With four first half goals scored Priory needed to try a halt the flow and to their credit a second half resistence ensued. However , Priory were unable to claw themselves back into the points. This result keeps Priory just outside the relegation zone as Woodmansterne Hyde were also beaten by Croydon Greenside 5-3.

HORSLEY (0) 1  REIGATE PRIORY   (1) 3

                         ReidL1,Page1,Paddley1

Reigate Priory put in their best performance of the season to stun 3rd placed Horsley and took a much needed three points. Priory began with a quick tempo, unsettling the oppositions passing game witnessed at the home encounter earlier in the season. A few minutes in and Priory began to find their own passing game and looked the much better side in the opening exchanges. Mid way through the first half, a Horsley attack was broken down by some resilient defending enabling the ball to find its way to Luke Reid on the left wing, where he was able to use his pace to get into the box and finished smartly past the opposition’s keeper. After some excellent hold up play from O’Boyle and Crossley, another few chances came Priory’s way before the end of the first half, hitting the post and forcing some last-ditch defending from Horsley. Into the second half with renewed belief, Priory came under some pressure from the opposition early on but managed to withstand some typically long ball style football. The second goal for Priory came from some excellent work down the right from Chandler who got the ball to the far post where it was pulled back for substitute Page to tuck home. After the goal Priory again came under pressure from Horsley and after a succession of corners their superior height in the box paid off with a well-timed header into the bottom corner. On the whole, defensively Priory withstood the pressure well, limiting Horsley to sparse chances in the second half. Priory finished with a flourish with a forward pass finding its way to O’Boyle who made an incisive pass to find a well-timed run from Paddley who out paced the centre-back to finish first time over the stranded keeper. An all round excellent, spirited display from Priory with 3 well deserved points to take back to a grateful chairman!

A tough home fixture for Priory this week to second place Eversley .Priory were not help by having  4 players dropping out 36 hours before the kickoff. Priory battled hard trying to get somthing out of the game and looked reasonably at ease with only letting Eversley shooting from a distance. It was not until the 30 minute when Eversley delivered a long throw into Priory`s box which was not dealt with to make 1 - 0 . The second, within only minutes of the start of the second half, when Priory should have learned from their mistakes in the first half when a long throw was put into Priory`s box and was struck home to make it 2 - 0 to Eversley. Priory pick their heads ups and tried to get back into the game and had a couple of good chances ,however with 25 minutes gone Eversley made it 3 - 0 to put the game beyond Priory.

Debutant O'Donnell had a good game in Priory goal. Priory now have another tough fixture awy to Horsley this week.

Priory travelled away with players missing and started the game well and held Milford defensively for a long period of the first half .It took Milford 30 minutes before they broke Priory down.Within minutes Milford made it 2 -0.Just before halftime Priory got a goal back when Simon Davies sruck the the ball home like a thunderbolt to make it 2 - 1 at halftime. The second half stared even until the 15 minute when Milford made it 3 - 1. Priory got their heads up and took the game to Milford and was rewarded when Liam Hogg scored to make it 3 - 2 .Unluckly within minutes Milford scored to make the game  4 - 2.Milford  then went on and took the game away from Priory to make it 5 - 2 . Another bad day at the office.

O'Boyle2,ReidL1,Chandler2,PetersD1

Although results had not been great of late, Priory went into this game full of confidence. It was a must win match against a side who were also finding points hard to come by. Within the first 10 minutes, Priory were 1-0 up. A long ball forward from Townsend was flicked on by Chandler. O'Boyle latched onto it and smashed an unstoppable shot past the visiting keeper from outside the box. Priory were having the better of the game, but gave away a sloppy equaliser on the half hour. With a few minutes remaining in the half some good interplay between Hogg, Paddley and O'Boyle, saw the ball fed through to Chandler. He was tripped in the box. Penalty awardedand LukeReid made no mistake.
Five minutes into the second half, Tongham were level again. A superb strike from outside the box gave Lawrence no chance. The last half hour was all about Priory and their attacking play. Priorys pace and ability going forward was too much for a fading Tongham side. Priory went on to score 4 further goals. Chandler got two, O'Boyle got his second of the game and Dan Peters were the scorers.
In a game Priory had to win, the three points were deserved. It was a convincing victory. With some very tough games coming up in March,Priory know it will be a hard run in to the end of the season. However, Priory maintain a great team ethic with a committed management team and feel confident that they can pick up further points against the Elite Teams.

A game that Priory needed to win and Priory started the better of the 2 sides with some good football .Priory created chances but failed to make the Old Ruts keeper make any saves ,the best chances for Priory came from

Priory came out strong in the second half and it was not long before they were awarded a penalty .Luke Reid stepped up and cooly slotted the ball home to give Priory a chance to get back into the game.Priory stayed on
top but somehow failed to take their chances and with the game coming to a close Old Ruts broke away to make it 3 - 1 .A game Priory should have won with all the chances but as this is showing `Lady Luck ` is not with Priory at the moment .

Karl Paddley received the ball just inside the box and was fouled ,but somehow got a shot away to make it 1 - 0. The second half it looked as if Priory were still in the changing rooms from halftime. With 15 minutes gone Esher scored two goals within a 10 minute period. Priory kept going forward and were rewarded when a free kick was delivered into the box for Ollie O`Boyle to clinacally finish to make it 2 - 2.With the game nearing to a end Esher lumped the ball into Priory`s

Priory into the last 16 of the Surrey Cup and tough opponents.Priory were unlucky not to go 2 - 0 up inside the first 20 minutes with good heading chances by Andy Castle and Ollie O`Boyle only just narrowly missing the target .However it was Epsom who broke the deadlock after 35 minutes to take the lead into halftime.Priory came out positively in the second half and had some great possession of the play .In the 15 minute Epsom were awarded a penalty to make it

2 - 0 .Priory responded and had a few chances ,the best falling to Luke Reid who broke through and only just failed to
make it 2 - 1.With 15 minutes left the game turned for the worse for Priory when Epsom went on to score four more goals. With not long left ,a moment of sunshine for Priory happened when Craig Wheeler broke away down

Another disappointing day for Priory as they travelled away to Epsom who had already beaten them earlier in the season. The score line did not reflect the truth of the game as Priory had the better chances and could have been 4 goals the better by half time . The best chances fell to Craig Wheeler,Ian Rowlands and Joe Warnham, but unfortunately Epsom took the lead after 30 minutes to make it 1 - 0. Priory carried on trying to play football but some of their passing was not up to their usual standard. The second half started evenly till 15 minutes gone when the Epsom player looked to control the ball with his arm only to pass the ball to his teammate to tap the ball in to make it 2 - 0.Priory made changes and soon after Luke Reid had 2 great chances to level the game only to just put the ball over the bar on both occasions.Priory should have made it 3 when Ollie O`Boyle shot went under the keeper only for a defender to make contact and the ball end up in the keepers hands. With Priory pushing forward they got caught on the break and conceeded 2 more goals to make it 4 - 0. One positive part of the game for Priory was that the stand in goalkeeper Dan  `Mouth ` Peters  had a great performance and could not do nothing with any of the goals.I guess its back to the tactics board for next week as Priory play Surrey Cup holders Epsom Eagles .

First game of the new year and a pitch that should never had been played on. The pitch created problems for both sides as they were restricted to playing any football ( At times it was more like Bambi on ice ). In the first 30 minutes Priory had the better chances and had a goal disallowed for offside .With 5 minutes left of the first half Priory seem to fall asleep and was only kept in the game by great saves from Bradley Martin. The second half carried on much the same as the first with the pitch getting worse as the minutes went by,it looked like whoever scored first would win the game. After 65 minutes Priory conceded the first goal from a freekick which should never have been given against them. Priory almost equalised when Townsend hit the bar with a header from an Eaton corner. On 75 minutes Luke Reid broke free and was 1 on 1 with the keeper only to slide the ball wide of the goal. Within a minute of Luke Reids missed opportunity Old Rutlishians got another goal when Ryan Eaton was looked to be fouled and the forward broke away and scored to make it 2 - 0.

A festive bottom of the table clash which saw Priory play some exciting football in the first half but failed to take their chances.O'Boyle had a great opportunity within minutes of the start but failed to get the right connection as his left footed shot went wide of the post. The best chance fell to Karl Paddley ,who was unable to put the ball into the goal. Priory looked very composed with the ball and Holland Sports never really troubled the Priory goal. Priory continued to stroke the ball round, but nearly conceded a goal when the Holland Sports player had a long range shot which Bradley Martin made a great save and pushed the ball out away from the goal. After 65 minutes Priory had a freekick which was delivered in by Ollie O`Boyle for Andy Castle to flick the ball onto the cross bar only for Joe Chandler to knock the ball `cheekely` into the net. Within 5 minutes Karl Paddley threaded the ball through the eye of the needle for Luke Reid to slot the ball home to make it 2 - 0.On 80 minutes, Priory broke down the left hand side with Charles Read who squared the ball on the edge of the box for Scott Smith to lace the ball home to make it 3 - 0. A good clean sheet and a well deserved win to push Priory up the table. Confidence is now on a high for Priory to go into the new year.

A frustrating start to the game for Priory due the awful condition of the pitch. Bradley Martin made two good saves to keep Priory in the game. As the half wore on Priory settled down and created good chances. It took until 30
minutes into the match for Priory to break the deadlock from a driven freekick by Ryan Eaton which was missed by everbody and ended up in the net.2 minutes later the ball was crossed in for a simple tap in by Andy Shear to make

it 2 - 0.
In the second half Merstham Newton gained a corner after 5 minutes and pulled a goal back to make it 2 - 1.Priory kept their heads and played great football and soon rewared when a cross from Ollie O`Boyle into the Newton box was meet by a stealth like Joe Chandler to head the ball home to make it 3 - 1 .It did not take Priory long to score again when Andy
Castle received the ball on the outside of the Newton penalty box and fired a awesome strike into the bottom corner giving the Newton keeper no chance.Priory did not sit back and carried their game to Newton and should have scored more with chances from Craig Wheeler and Luke Reid, who were unlucky not to score. Manager Andy Davies could not hide his delight with this result and said at least i will be able to celebrate and have a smile on my face for Christmas.
Priory now face last years winners Epsom Eagles in the next round.

With Priory making 3 new signings this week and hoping for a good result at home to Elm Grove found it hard in the first half to get started .It was not long before they conceded a goal due to their own mistakes and shortly after became 3 - 0 down before halftime. At halftime a re-shuffle of players positions, Priory took the game to Elm Grove and created 3 or 4 chances to get back into the game but was only stopped by Elm Grove`s keeper making some good saves to keep Priory out .By the end of the 90 minutes Priory were unlucky not to get something out
of the game .

MILFORD & WITLEY (2) 7  REIGATE PRIORY   (0) 0

A torid afternoon for Priory as very little could be taken from the 90 minutes at Milford & Witley. As soon as Milford had struck their oppener it was pretty much one way traffic. Milford were two up within 15 mins and Priory had an uphill struggle. Although Priory did have a brief spell where they got back into the game, there was no end result and it was'nt till mid way through the second half before an individual effort from Luke Reid ended up with Priorys first shot on goal. As heads went down , Milford easily dismantled Priorys resistance and scored five second half goals.

Priory need to pick themselves up for next weeks encounter at home to Elm Grove.

Another tough game for Priory who matched Horsley for most of the first 45 minutes. It was Priory who came the closest to scoring first ,but however failed to take the lead .Horsley broke the deadlock after 30 minutes with
a long throw into Priory`s box which was struck home to make it 1 - 0 to Horsley. Not long after Horsley forward got 1 on 1 with Priory`s keeper Bradley Martin only for the keeper to pull off a outstanding save to deny it being 2 - 0. Priory went into the second half more positive and played great football .It was after 15 minutes when Horsley threw a long throw into the box again which Priory did not defend well and the Horsley player hit the ball into the net to make it 2 - 0.Priory kept on battling ,Bradley Martin made a couple of great saves to keep Priory in the game, however Horsley broke
away and made it 3 - 0.Priory caried on and was rewarded a goal for Luke Reid when the Horsley keeper and defender gifted Luke Reid to walk the ball into the net.Next week Priory are back in cup action away to Milford in the league cup.

 Defending Corner

What a difference a week makes as Priory played the2nd round of the Surrey Intermediate County Cup.Priory took the game to Shalford straight from the kick off and created a few good chances. The best cahances fell to Andy Sheer who hit the post and both Liam Hogg and James Leask both putting the ball into the side netting .Shalford rarely troubled Priory`s defence during the first half as the fist half ended goaless.

Priory continued to press forward straight from the kick off and after 7 minutes they were awarded a penalty, which Andy Sheer placed the ball into the bottom corner of the Shalford net. Minutes later Andy Shear broke free and was 1 on 1 with the Shalford keeper and cooly slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 2 - 0.Priory carried on playing some good football and was rewarded with another penalty which was driven home by Tim Seldon to make it 3 - 0.Shalford did have a couple of chances which they failed to take. This was a great team performance by Priory and was their first clean sheet of the season .Hopefully Priory can now take their performance into their league games .Overall a happier day at Priory this week.

Priory on the road again for another tough away fixture. Both sides stated brightly with chances not being taken by either team.It took until the 30th minute for 1 of the teams to break through ,Epsom got their noses in
front. The goal conceded only spurred Priory on and within 5 minutes a free kick was whipped in at the near post for Tim Seldon to react the quickest and flick the ball into the Epsoms goal.Priory kept driving forward and just minutes before half time a defensive diving header from Liam Hogg found Luke Reid who ran past the Epsom defence and cooly slotted past Epsoms keeper.
The second half started like the first half finished with Priory the better team. However after 15 minutes gone Epsom broke down the wing and crossed the ball for their forward to head home.Priory kept playing football and in the 20th minute Luke Reid broke free from his defenders down the wing and squared the ball for Craig Wheeler to smash the ball home pass the keeper, minutes later Luke Reid broke free again and found Craig Wheeler who side footed the ball pass the Epsom keeper to make it 4 - 2 .Priory did conceed a penalty to make it 4 - 3 .With only 12 minutes
left Luke Reid drove down the left wing and passed the ball into the box for Andy Shear ,who then rolled the ball to the outside of the box for Daniel Peters to smash the ball home like a bullett in to the top corner of the goal to make the final score 5 - 3 to Priory. Manager Andy Davies finally had a smile on his face this season and was overwhelmed with the teams performance.

EVERSLEY   (0) 2      REIGATE PRIORY   (0) 1

                                ReidL1

A tough away fixture for Priory to one of the top teams in the league. The first half  Eversley had the better chances but failed to score due to Priory`s strong defence. The only real chance came for Priory when Luke Reid broke through the Eversley defence and was 1 on 1 with the keeper only for the keeper to pull off a great save to deny Priory to take the lead. Priory started brightly in the second half and was not long before a superb cross from Ryan Eaton found Luke Reid unmarked and cooly slotted the ball pass the Eversley keeper.Eversley put loads of pressure onto Priory who held out until 15 minutes left when a corner fo Eversley was crossed in for a Eversley player to out jump the Priory player and head home. With  3 minutes of injury time being played Priory thought they had done enough to earn a point when the ball was put into Priory`s box for a Eversley player to head the ball home to snatch the winner.A very gut wrenching result for the Priory team.

REIGATE PRIORY FC  (1) 3      FRIMLEY GREEN RESERVES   (1) 1

Shear1,Taylor1,O.G1

After a weeks break from any matches Priory had a tough home draw in the Surrey Cup. Priory started slowly with Frimley Green playing the better of the two teams and if it was not for Priory`s defence they could have
conceded a goal or two. After 30 minutes Priory got into their stride and started to play some good football and were rewarded with a corner which was delivered into the near post only for the Frimley Green defender to
slice the ball into his own net. Priory sat back on their lead and it was not long before Frimley Green got the equalizer.
The second half started with Priory on top but failed to take thier chances. With 20 minutes left of the game it looked like the game was heading for extra time until Luke Reid burst through with the ball and took on 2 defenders and the keeper to square the ball for Andy Sheer to slot the ball home . 5 minutes later a cross field pass found Nick Taylor running in
at the far post to beat the Frimley Green keeper to wrap the game up for Priory. This was a great all round team performance by Priory who now will take this performance into their next league game against Elite League Leaders Eversley.

With no game for Priory last weekend another away trip Priory started playing football straight from the whistle. With some of thhe senoir players missing this week Priory had to draft in some of the younger players who held there own and did not look out of place.Priory had most of the possesion but failed to take their chances. It was not until half time when Andy Shear crossed in from a freekick for Mark Townsend to head home only to have the goal disallowed by Tongham linesman. Priory started the second half as they finished the first by being on top and not taking their chances. It was not until 25 minutes had gone Daniel Peters had a shot which was going in only for the defender to kick the ball over the line . Priory carried on playing great football only for a moment lose of concentration allowing Tongham to level the game. With this Priory kept pussing forward to score the winning goal but never took their chances. The closest was Craig Wheeler when he played his own version of `crossbar challenge ` by hitting the bar twice with 10 minutes left but some how failed to score .

Some how Priory felt that this was 3 points they should have come away with.

Priory continue to look for the level of performance required in the Surrey Elite to start getting the points required to survive. Priorys young side are still searching for the form which has seen the team move up the ranks over the past two years. With the visit to Elm Grove last saturday it was a game of few chances.

Charles Read came close when he was through with only the keeper to beat but was unable to convert . Both sides improved in the early stages of second half without breaking the deadlock .It was not until the last 15 minutes when the game came to life when both teams were awarded penalty`s . Luke Reid slotted home Priory`s penalty and Elm Grove scored theirs. With 7 minutes left in the game it looked like Priory were going to hold out for their first point however errors allowed Elm Grove to take all three points with two further goals scored.

Fitness levels in the the final 20 minutes were lacking and Priory need to get back onto the training ground to address so the teams potential can be achieved. Priory currently 3rd from bottom with Woodmansterne and Tongham occupying the two bottom slots. With no game this saturday and a visit to Tongham on the 27th September , a lot to prepare for. Training Wednesday lads !

LIPHOOK UTD  (1) 4   REIGATE PRIORY FC  (0) 1

                                           Townsend1

A new season and a new league fo Priory. The game started evenly between the two sides with Priory coming close a couple of times from good delivered freekicks from Ryan Eaton. After 30 minutes Liphook took the lead after the put a long ball into the box for their player to out jump a Priory player and score with a header. There where not many more
chances in the first half from either team. With only moments gone in the second half Andy Crossley came close when
breaking free and just slotting the ball wide of the Liphook goal. With 15 minutes gone Priory conceded 2 quick goals.5 minutes later Priory won a corner which was delivered into the box only for Mark Townsend to rise like a Salmon and head the ball home to make it 3 - 1 Then 10 minutes later Priory conceded a crushing fourth goal.Late on in the game Priory gave a penalty away from which Peter Shearman made a save to keep Liphook from making it 5. This was a tough lesson for Priory who now can only build from this first game into a new level of football

WESTERHAM (1)(2) 3  REIGATE PRIORY FC  (0)(0) 0

Priory started brightly against their Kent County League opponents only to run out of steam. Within the first 15 mins 3 glorious opportunities could have given Priory an early advantage. However some good saves by the Westerham Keeper thwarted Priory. Although Westerham had most of the possession in the first period there opportunities were limited. After 20 mins Westerham scored their first from the Penalty spot.  In the second period Priory change their formation and applied some early pressure and could have equalised through Diaz who was one on one with the keeper , but could not find the net. Westerham extended their lead from a corner where their striker rose unchallenged to head home. Westerham rounded up the result with a third goal from a corner where a challenge in the box saw the ball into the net. Priory now look forward to the start of their Surrey Elite campaign with an away trip to Liphook Utd.

With two weeks to the season opener Priory put in an improved performance to overcome Maidenbower Village from the Crawley Premier. The game started very evenly without too many clear cut chances. Priory took the lead as Shear pounced in the box as the keeper dithered on a clearance. Shear then slotted home from close range. Priorys second half saw more attempts on goal with Williams up front causing problems for the Maidenbower defence. Following some good work from Williams , Hamilton netted from close range to make it two. The result was rounded off as Williams broke clear to slot the ball home.

Next week Priory take two teams to Westerham to compete against the Kent County League outfits 1st and Reserve teams.

Priory  were in action against Tooting Bec on Saturday , a team from the Surrey South East Intermediate 1. In a mixed line up Priory put in a spirited performance but did'nt quite have enough to overcome a solid Tooting Bec outfit. Priory conceded after 15 mins when a direct freekick found the top corner. Priory kept going and were rewarded with an equaliser from a Mclaughlan challenge in the box saw the ball drop into the goal. Whilst possession was fairly even Tooting Bec provided a bigger threat in front of goal. Bec scored their second when their striker placed his shot wide of Priorys advancing keeper. Priory almost equalised with the last kick of the game , but Hamiltons fine shot hit the underside of the bar.

REDHILL  (2) 3    REIGATE PRIORY FC  (0) 0                        (Redhill Match Report)

Priory put in a much improved performance against their stronger County League opposition at Kiln Brow on saturday. Priory seemed to have learnt from their previous game at Three Bridges putting in an increased work rate to limit Redhill in front of goal. With 40 mins on the clock it looked like Priory were going to make it to half time all square , however , a poorly defended freekick gave Redhill the lead. Redhill extended their lead within minutes as the ball drifted across the Priory goal with the Redhill striker nipping in at the far post to convert.

Into the second half and Redhill continued to dominate posession with Priory working hard to close down. Redhill made it three following a rebound off the bar and post was finally converted. Priorys opportunities throughout the game were limited , however a respectable result for Reigate Priory against the Redhill senior team.

THREE BRIDGES RESERVES (4) 6   REIGATE PRIORY FC  (0) 0

Priory started their pre season preparation with a stutter going down 6-0 away to Three Bridges Reserves. Bridges , who were into their 5th Friendly were much the better side and swamped Priory in a first half which left Priory thinking what had hit them. The second half was a much more positive affair and although Priory conceded two further goals they were more in the game. Many lessons learnt , so this was probably a very good eye opener especially with the Redhill game looming.
